Occupation : Glorified mechanic Current cars : 1997 R33 Skyline GT-R, 1989 Honda CR-X ..... and a Camry Here to : Learn as much as I can, and hopefully contribute something to the forum. For the moment little contributing and lots of reading/learning. I'm in the process of deciding on a fwd road / trackday car, and both the Clio & Megane are on the list. I'm trying to learn as much as I can - hopefully this is the place to learn about the phenominal, the good, the bad and the ugly of Renault ownership. Dish Posted 27, June 2012 Report Share Posted 27, June 2012 Welcome You've certainly come to the right place if you want to learn more about RS cars in this country. Don't mind RBH - I don't think he's had his meds today Oh, and I hope rob240 doesn't see the mention of that other C-word ('Camry'). Cheers, Dish. Like...I mean...wasn't that the obvious response? And...like Dish says...be careful who you use the the T-word or the numbers 86 around. Dave200 Posted 27, June 2012 Report Share Posted 27, June 2012 Welcome! For the rawest FWD experience, you cant go past a 172 or 182 clio
walkie86 Posted 27, June 2012 Report Share Posted 27, June 2012 Welcome mate! A cheap 172 is hard to beat for fun, learning to drive fast and "surprising" more expensive machinery (hell, this is what RENAULTsport is all about ) A 197/200 is hard to beat for sure-footedness. An R26 is hard to beat for power and LSD as standard! A 250 is hard to beat for tuning potential, stock LSD and looks! It all depends on your budgets, plans and goals EDITED to add models. CorporalPunishment Posted 27, June 2012 Report Share Posted 27, June 2012 Welcome to the fold, we were all noobs once... I had an Astra, clearly I was deranged! Did you have a preference on which generation of RS you were after? They're all great (but then again we're biased ). walkie sums up the lineup pretty well. Also, if a Clio 200 or Megane RS250 are within reach then you won't be disappointed there either!
BUSGO Posted 27, June 2012 Report Share Posted 27, June 2012 Welcome. Take the extra torque of a Clio 200! (Extra space as well)
nemz Posted 27, June 2012 Report Share Posted 27, June 2012 Welcome Jack! You've definitely come to the right place. As was posted above, Clio FTW.
Apex Posted 28, June 2012 Report Share Posted 28, June 2012 Welcome. Take the extra torque of a Clio 200!(Extra space as well) When does that kick in? was waiting.. Depending on how competitive you are a Clio or Megane will do you well. I run a Megane in Targa and its very fast, not just for a FWD but in general, we have finished two events with the honers of being fastest FWD, much faster than Honda's and other fast FWD cars... including Clio's that are much slower stage for stage
Dave200 Posted 28, June 2012 Report Share Posted 28, June 2012 Welcome. Take the extra torque of a Clio 200!(Extra space as well) When does that kick in? was waiting.. Until i had clocked up 15000km, there was a noticable lack of low torque. Its a different car now though. There is more surge at low RPM. I think i have a freak engine though.
