Newbie to the RS world, saying hello and looking for a bit of advice

Hey everyone,

I’ve just put a deposit down on my first RS Megane. A 2012 265 trophy plus, needless to say I’m ridiculously excited to pick it up.

I’ve always been a BMW/Audi driver, but having read endless amazing reviews about these cars I’ve decided to make a switch!

I was hoping someone could point me to somewhere that explains in detail the seemingly endless and confusing differences between cup/trophy/trophy plus etc

As I’ve gone for the plus, it seems to have all the specked up options, however little things confuse me like it not having the Recaro buckets which I thought were standard in the plus models? (But obviously I was wrong!)

A pic of it below, will get some more detailed shots up once I’ve got it home and given it a full detail! Any advice will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Welcome and what a great choice!

Yes the model names are worse than what I just recently realised the Jaguar/land Rover company are doing right now.

There's a resource somewhere that explains it, but from memory:
Limited edition - the only one without cup suspension or LSD
Cup - the main base model
Cup+ - cup with leather seats, possibly sunroof
Trophy - cornering bixenon lights, 19" steeb wheels (like yours) I think came standard with Recaro sportster CS seats, small screen like the cup models
Trophy+ - leather seats, steev wheels, sat nav screen which also doubles as reversing camera, unless optioned with RS monitor (couldn't have both prefacelift until RB8), definitely Recaro sportster CS was an option
RB8 - trophy+ with the RS monitor 2.0, standard Recaro sportster CS seats, and lots of stickers
8:08 - I think it's pretty much a trophy+ witha smattering of stickers, Recaro sportster CS seats
And I think... That may be it.

That’s great, thanks so much, slowly getting to grips with all the model variations. I was a little disappointed it didn’t have the Recaro’s but it had everything else I was looking for so a small sacrifice!

I have the leather seats in the cup plus. Like you I originally wanted recaroa however, I haven't got to the track as much as I thought and as a daily, the non recaro leather seat is fantastic!!!

Congrats on the purchase and welcome.

Really easy car to fall in love with and the leather heated Recaro's in yours are IMO a better seat than the bucket style CS's overall.

If you ever get a chance to see one with the CS seats in the flesh you'll notice the lower side bolstering is fixed which makes it a pain in the ass (literally if brushed against) to get in and out of the car.

It's a fairly cheap mod. IMO ask them to replace the muffler with a smaller sports one as well. You will get more bangs and a better sound. Good bang for buck there.

Should be out for less than 400 if I were to guess.

I went for the full turbo back system so haven't done this. But I have heard guys who did the resonator and muffler delete. It sounded pretty good but just needed a small sport muffler to give it a smoother tone.

Can someone please advise how common /easy is it to remove the resonator? I'm interested in getting it done

20 minutes work and under $100 if you go to a local exhaust place. $350 at a "performance" exhaust specialist.

Two cuts with a reciprocating saw, insert section of pipe, two welds. Done

Hmm, there's mufflers and there's mufflers though, easy to get it wrong and end up with a horrible drony nightmare. Consensus seems to be removing the resonator alone gives more pops and bangs without extra noise/drone.

I did the resonator delete. $80, money well spent as mentioned above. Then I had the large muffler box replaced with a straight through Magna Flow muffler. A slightly deeper tone but that was it.  It cost $500, probably not worth the money for the result. But it did save a few kg, which is also worth considering.

Ok great, I think I’ll resonator delete but save the 500 notes on muffler removal if it doesn’t add that much difference. But then again a few Kgs saved is always a bonus!

I did the same as Speedfiend...

Centre Res delete and new Magnaflow hi-flow muffler. Can't remember exact price but think it was around the $550 mark and highly rate it.

There are pics on another thread if I can find it.

I’m still thinking about doing it again. There’s quite a bit of weight in that massive muffler box and I’m slowly chipping away at excess kg. It’ll never be a Trophy R but every kg is a bit less to haul up a hill climb!

I've been quoted $200 for centre res delete by RenoTech, good price or can I get cheaper somewhere else?

$80-100 at your local exhaust place. I warned you it would be more at a "performance" store

I've read quite a number of Meg 3 owners speak highly of Magnaflow straight through/hi-flow mufflers.

Would anyone care to recommend an exact one so that I can order it online? Thanks.

Ha ha this is déjà vu for me. Someone asked the exact same question of me when I first did it. Same answer - it was a generic, straight through can with a bit of noise baffling.  MMRS-250 may be more specific.

Around the corner from Renotech there is a local muffler place that should do it for cheap. I got my back muffler replaced with a resonator there and think that costed me $250 or so??

It really isnt a tough job to do tbh

Performance Exhaust in Melbourne did a number of Meganes with this mod. I just checked their website for the Magnaflow product and there are a heap. I know it is the SS oval type but not sure on exact model.

If you ring them I'm sure they will help with any questions. Think Dave was the bloke that looked after me.

I'm back home in a week so I will climb under the 250 and see if there are any part numbers.
