HI all, I have been in the background reading and researching to the stage where I need to ask a question.....

So I am thinking of buying a 2012 Renault Clio RS 200 Red Bull edition, I test drove one on the weekend and loved it but after reading about the poor people on here and how they have been treated with bad services and by Renault Australia I'm a little concerned....

I am also looking at a Fiat Abarth 500, so please advise. I have a trusted mechanic friend that isn't a specialist in any one brand, but I was planning on taking whatever I buy to him as he looks after me with car services & good service prices.

Thanks!

Honestly, read any car forum and the bitching about poor dealer service will be there. Focus on the positive, not the negative. From what I know Renault warranty issues are among the lowest in the industry. Plus if you have a bad experience with a particular dealer there is nothing stopping you going to another.

I have a relative who owns a Tiguan, the car has been generally OK but the few warranty issues he's had have been a complete nightmare, he had a 3 hour argument with a service manager last week over something that was quite clearly a warranty issue. My Father-in-Law has a Koleos of similar age, 0 warranty issues and complete satisfaction with after sales service.

Thanks all for the re-assurance, after I posted I called a Renault service technician nearest me and had a chat with me and he told in depth what had happened with those issues and Renault Australia. So now I feel better knowing what I know and the Clio is still number one on my list. As a bonus I was just out for my lunch break I parked next to a Angels & Demon RS Clio in red - awesome!!

I know right :D , I'm going this afternoon to see a dealer about another one :D

When I test drove one last weekend with the salesperson, we were driving along the freeway with my exit approaching and two guys in a old BMW 3 series with P plates pulled up next to me and revved there engine for a race. Come on...really....like they'd have a chance! I exited the freeway with the salesperson happy plus I had my 4 year old daugher in the back! Is this what I have to expect when I get my own?

Welcome.

You'll always get idiots about in any nice even vaguely sporting car but it also depends on the time and place.

By the way all my experiences have been excellent with the Bryan Byrt servicing. I've had a couple of warranty claims which have also been hassle free.

Cheers,

Trent

Thanks Trent for the welcome. So is it true there are only 35 Red Bull editions in Australia or is it a marketing ploy?

Sounds about right. Truth be told there's been so many Clio 200 limited editions the standard spec cars are probably rarer.

The standard 200s were launched around the 2010 AGP and then the 20th AE was the first LE (and best  ) with deliveries starting in mid 2010, then Gordini, AGP, A&D and finally the Red Bull. I think that's all of them.

One thing about car forums - a lot of people join forums to complain or to find out if others have similar problems - this is what prompts google searches. So you will normally see a disproportional amount of problems on car forums as compared to the general public.

Eg. I hate car rattles. Even the smallest of rattles I pick up (seatbelt rubbing on the leather recaros annoys me). Noone else in the car can hear it!!!!!

I think it doesn't matter what brand or type of vehicle you want to buy. None of them will be trouble free according to forums, or even how much the vehicle costs! $30,000 or $90,000 they all have issues...
