I can only get access at work via dial up; at home ADSL.

Signature pics and embedded photos are a major PITA on dial up. Thumbnails or links and banning pics in sigs would be a big improvement for people on slow connections.

I haven't voted because I'm a 50:50. :)

How about a text only version for people on dail up, and mobile phones :P

Thats a good idea Jeff, Dial-Up users can simply change their internet browser options to not show pics automatically.

Would that solve your problem Murcod?

Smart ass 8)

Most of the info is text based and if they are on dial up maybe that's all they need to see :P

Anyway the way to implment the idea is to have text only templtes that stip out image tags and display them as text links.

Seem to me the forum should cater to the common denomonator and in this case it's clearly broadband :P

Other forums have "lo fi version" options that give the option of not having all the bandwidth heavy fancy crud or pics- you select the option and you get text and not much else . Is it an option with this type of bulletin board?

Personally I fail to see the need to have pics in sigs, but each to their own. Imagine if everyone maxxed out their sig lines with flowery pics.

Clio F1 I use Firefox at work and imagine it would have an option to turn pics off? Given it only connects at 24kb/sec it's bloody slow....

BTW Jeffster you are truly arrogant!

I use telekenesis, or a bio port that I stole from the set of existenz

    classic

Jeff good inovative suggestion....but Pops that was classic....jeff sorry mate but you were owned

I agree that most of us use broadband (however I also use dial up at home).

If we don't start to allow more dynamic content then the site will start to stagnate as technology moves along.

If this is about improving content I vote we go down the broadband route. (if that is what this is about)

Here's an example of the "Lo Fi" bulletin board option I was talking about: http://www.dtvforum.info/

Scroll right down to the bottom and click on the "Lo Fi Version" button on the gray bar- hey presto dial up friendly!

Is there an option for that with this bulletin board? It would keep everyone happy- not everyone is a geek who pays for broadband and we could be losing potential members.

Not sure what you mean but I am sure you are right,I will take it as the good natured jibe it was :P

So did any of the mods/ admins look at my earlier post with the example of the "lo fi" option on a bulletin board? Is it possible or not?

You want us to return to the topic? Can't you tell we've hijacked it? :D

Sorry! Maybe an Admin can rudely interrupt us and answer your reasonable question.

Well, I know when I'm on dial up accesing the site I don't browse topics "willy nilly"- I only open the ones that I'm really interested in (due to the time it takes each one to load.)

So, perhaps dial up users haven't even looked at the thread for that reason?
