racingroo_new Posted 2, March 2007 Report Share Posted 2, March 2007 Hello hello! I'm the proud new owner of an immaculate black 2002 Clio Sport. As I've discussed on the aussiefrog forum, the timing belt needs to be changed. At least I think it needs to be changed (its only done 26000Km, but is well over 4 years old) and I can't find anything in the log book about it being changed. Also, there is no sticker in the engine bay detailing a recent belt change (When I got my corolla done, toyota placed a sticker on the timing belt cover with the odometer reading at the time the belt was changed). I have the renault dealer details of when/where the car last got serviced (in late 06). Should I give them a call (it was in VIC)? It seems we (SA) are having some issues with the renault dealer at Nailsworth. Some mechanics are saying the belt doesn't need to get changed every four years, just go by K's. Then I rang and he said, nah it's definately got to be changed at the 4 year mark. From what I've learnt from aussiefrog.com, it needs to be changed anally at 100000K OR 4 years. Unfortunately, the service department it booked out until march 20 and have to wait until then. I'll post some pictures soon. Coming from a 91 madza 323, things I've enjoyed most about the clio are (in no particular order): - xenon headlight (so fancy). - mid range torque. - bucket (ish) seats. - style. - brakes. - standard exhaust manifold (pure car porn they are, pitty they are hidden at the back) - handling (duh) - rare. - remote central locking I read from drive.com.au that it was meant to have a 6CD stacker as standard. I don't think mine does. Looking forward for the belt change so I can really enjoy the clio. Also, someone from these forums was looking at the car also. It was purchased from stillwell used cars. I loved to know who the person was so I could ask their opinion of that particular car.
Clio_to_Ryde Posted 2, March 2007 Report Share Posted 2, March 2007 Hello hello! I read from drive.com.au that it was meant to have a 6CD stacker as standard. I don't think mine does. Check under the passenger seat and, Welcome
biologist Posted 2, March 2007 Author Report Share Posted 2, March 2007 Good to see you finally made it onto the forum after my clumsy efforts. Yup the CD stacker is under the front passenger seat of the 172, not fitted on the 182 though. I don't know why there is conflicting advice on the timing belts, it clearly states in my manuals for both cars that services are determined by mileage or time (which ever comes first). Hence my Clio has recently had its 40K service but only has 28K on the odo, ie its two year or 40K service was due. And Spidey has had her second timing belt replaced as she had her 8th birthday late last year and her motor has only done 23K. Cheers anyway and enjoy the forum. Check under the passenger seat and, Welcome oops! The ol' under the front passenger seat trick. I was thinking the stacker was inside the dash, and you just feed it six discs (one at a time) through the one slot. As I found out last night, I was mistaken. ekimyrf Posted 8, March 2007 Report Share Posted 8, March 2007 Racingroo I was the person that looked at your car Very nice looked stunning and drove lovely I would have bought it but it was a bit more than I was prepared to pay knowing it needed a Cambelt. If you got it for the right price you have got yourself a very nice Clio Regards Mike

If you got it for the right price you have got yourself a very nice Clio Regards Mike As you may have read in the other threads, she's getting the cambelt done next week. They gave me a good price for my 91 mazda 323: $3500. There is a couple of rattles that I didn't notice on the test drive, one in the drivers door and another just above the speedo in the dash. Oh well, give me something to do on a lazy saturday morning. Oh and it wouldn't start last saturday, needed the TDC sensor cleaned, did that myself. Starts like a charm now. I'm learning quickly what renaults are all about.

racingroo_new Posted 9, March 2007 Report Share Posted 9, March 2007 WELL DONE on the TDC sensor 'roo, are you a bloody brain surgeon or something ? lol.. nope. Thanks for the complement anyway. Credit needs to go out to Mase for his thread about this problem. He followed the problem right through to the end even though some people said it can't be the TDC. It seems it was the TDC sensor for Mase and myself, so the ECU must not allow spark until it can read the TDC or something. Mase had dodgy wiring on his TDC, mine was just dirty. racingroo_new Posted 13, March 2007 Report Share Posted 13, March 2007 Here is a bit of a write up of my current clio events: Accidently put on the windscreen washer instead of highbeam. The headlight washes then started to leak, but hooray it decided to stop today. I'm going to try not to use the headwashers again. Only brought one bottle of elf 5-40W excel for a coming oil change. I probably should of brought two because I read somewhere that the clio take 5.1 Litres? Do people also buy new sump plugs and washes for the oil change? The little C has a big day tomorrow, seeing steve at manta for the cambelt change. I'm going to ask steve to clean the intake/plenium chamber/throttle body while he is at it. Wont get C back to thursday arvo. He will be missed. Final got coordinated enough to heel toe. I still haven't mastered the clutch yet. I don't stall, but I could be smoother. Peace out. ekimyrf Posted 13, March 2007 Report Share Posted 13, March 2007 Glad to hear you are enoying your Clio I am still searching for one currently looking interstate and am hanging out to get into one Good luck with your belt changes I reckon you are making the right decision to get this done from all the advise i have heard When you did your test drive did they send you down Memorial drive and through North Adelaide like they did with me or did you get a more interesting run ? Cheers Mike

Cheers Mike Hi Man, Yep that same test drive. When I seemed interested with the Clio they offered me to go on a test drive by myself, but kinda already had my heart set on it. I did rev all the way to 7K a few times on the test drive, plus as the girl suggested, attack the corners in north adelaide square quite hard. The torque is the thing I really love the most though. Apparently, there is a silver one with 80 or 90 thousand clicks, going for 16990 or something. I think my mate said he looked in the trading post (or carsale.com.au). *Edit: Trading Post. http://www.autotrader.com.au/iteminfo/adnumber_W636431589267_kw_clio+sport_loc_locRZSQregtAVSCdistRZSQAVSCstateRZSQ5AVSCregRZSQ_off_0_sect_Automotive_sort_otRZSQ1BJDZfdRZSQSearchDisplayPriorityIndAVSCotRZSQ1BJDZfdRZSQFirstPublished_sqt_0_stpg_1_subs_Used+Cars_

racingroo_new Posted 15, March 2007 Report Share Posted 15, March 2007 Hi Guys, I picked it up from manta at about 4:40pm. My great boss let me out of work 1 hour early today so I could pick it up today. What a great guy. Yeah it is pretty dirty now Pete, the car was really clean in that pic because it was the day I picked it up from the dealer (2 weeks ago). It was nicely detailed by them. I doubt I'll ever get it that clean again. I usually just go to one of those do it yourself car wash places. Went for the first hills flog tonight. It was quite eventful. I hit a rabbit with the rear right wheel. I did swerve but he/she ran under the rear wheel as i was going by. Poor little fella. Coming down greenhill road, one of the left handers tightened more than I remember and got the clio in oversteer mode for the first time. It was a little scary, I just straightened the steering wheel (maybe a tiny bit of opposite lock) and the rear tyres gripped again and was all okay. There was a few wet patches on greenhill road tonight, so I'm not sure if it was a wet patch or I was going too fast. It wasn't oversteery at all before that corner. When I got home, I got out to check for any blood around the rear right wheel arch. It was clean, but now I noticed a scratch in the paint work. It is right on the fold on the arch. Like something (previous owner) had like a stick caught in the tyre and as it rotated it scratched the guard. It's not very visible (as it is on the fold) so some touch up paint will fix it. I just don't want it to rust because I'm a bit of a worry wart. Check out the social section. I'm going for a small hills cruise tomorrow night (about 10 cars) if anyone wants to come. Nothing to crazy. There are going to be a lot of skylines there, so some clio backup would be nice
