DaveMc Posted 25, August 2016 Report Share Posted 25, August 2016 Hello all, looks like you’ve got a great thing going here. I’ve just bought a 2014 Megane RS 265 after a long hunt. They’re sensational cars, and quite good value on the used market these days. I've been lucky enough to drive quite a few third-generation Meganes over the years – pretty much everything from the non-Cup 265 Limited Edition all the way up to the mental Trophy R – in a few interesting places. A rental Renault at the Nurburgring earlier this year sealed the deal, and we started looking for a car at home. I started out in search of a fairly basic car with Recaros and no sunroof before my other half shook things up by being adamant it had to have heated seats and a reversing camera. The black machine here fits the bill, it is a 2014 Megane RS 265 Cup + with leather comfort seats, bi-xenons, 19s, front parking sensors etc. We got a strong deal, trading in our VW for the new machine. Took it for a long drive at dawn the next day, leaving Sydney for the Royal National Park, Sea Cliff Bridge, Macquarie Pass, Jamberoo Pass, Kangaroo Valley and a couple of quiet roads near Bowral and Mittagong. I’m in love. I’m a member of the Bathurst car club, so the plan is to do the odd hillclimb or track day with the car. Looking forward to the journey, thanks for having me on board. DaveMc Posted 25, August 2016 Author Report Share Posted 25, August 2016 Enjoyed the write up! Welcome mate, photos look great. Never ended up driving the (I'm going to get banned for this) Focus RS in the back? Thank you! No, I didn't drive that particular example on the 'ring... but I have had one in Sydney for a few days this week. It's bloody good, I brought it home and jokingly introduced it to my wife as "our next car", less than 24 hours after buying the Renault. She wan't impressed! Here's the beastie at The Rocks this week.
MikeC90 Posted 25, August 2016 Report Share Posted 25, August 2016 Welcome! Glad to hear you are enjoying the car, should provide many years of fun. Good luck keeping it clean Love the Ring and rear facing pics too The Focus certainly isn't looking quite as composed as the Megane haha! Good luck keeping it clean Love the Ring and rear facing pics too The Focus certainly isn't looking quite as composed as the Megane haha! I don't think it will be too clean. The last car was pearlescent black, rarely looked schmick. I'm much more keen on driving than washing cars! Yeah the Focus at the 'ring was pretty keen. It's fairly wet in that pic, he was giving it a good go! I was fairly cautious there, going out with an instructor to learn wet lines etc. The Renault's $27k insurance excess was also a factor... DaveMc Posted 27, August 2016 Author Report Share Posted 27, August 2016 Quite possibly. Been to every Bathurst 12 hour of the modern era, hopefully will be there for 2017 as well.
rob 240 Posted 28, August 2016 Report Share Posted 28, August 2016 Follow the Donut King / SSC Lotus Exige V6 team so have been there for that , it had s prang in practise a few weeks beforehand so missed the last one - it's being rebuilt at present so hoping it'll be there next year We usually hang around the pits then head up top mid morning to a mates shade tent ... So nice to see proper cars racing there without the supercar crowds
DaveMc Posted 28, August 2016 Author Report Share Posted 28, August 2016 Yeah it is a pearler of an event. I loved the old Bathurst 24 Hour, this one really picked up where that left off. Sensational cars too - and next year will go off with M6, Huracan, 488, AMG GT, 991 etc joining the fray. Usually spend the day loitering around the pits/media centre but there's always time for an excursion or two to the top. Particularly for the start.

DaveMc Posted 28, August 2016 Author Report Share Posted 28, August 2016 PI sounds tempting... though I'll probably do Mount Panorama instead. The Bathurst Light Car Club has a big meet on that weekend, and I'd love my Megane to meet the Mountain!
