fleets24 Posted 14, September 2011 Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 OK - so this is the newbie page, I'm allowed to ask rookie questions- what is everyones opinions on running in? The guys at Henley said these things are good to go hard from 1km. Help!
cannon Posted 14, September 2011 Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 In your manuals and books it describes what you should do for the first 1000kms ... speed limits, rev range etc
fleets24 Posted 14, September 2011 Author Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 couldn't find it... obviously didn't look hard enough! Why is the dealer saying don't worry about it then?

RBH58 Posted 14, September 2011 Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 A mechanic friend of mine who has worked on everything including race cars swears by the take it easy in the revs department for the first 300km and then drive it like you stole it. fleets24 Posted 14, September 2011 Author Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 Thanks RBH58, that's pretty much where I am at - 350km on the clock, maybe pushed her a little hard last night, temp guage was perfect but the heat was definitely noticeable to the nose when I put her away. griffyn Posted 14, September 2011 Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 The smell is just paint and pre-delivery muck burning off
fleets24 Posted 14, September 2011 Author Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 Good to hear it's what I initially thought! I'll have to take her out again tonight, I'm sh*t scared I will screw up the running in
cannon Posted 14, September 2011 Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 The manual says nothing above 130km/hour or above 3500 rpm if I remember correctly for the first 1000kms
fleets24 Posted 14, September 2011 Author Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 well I have been past 3500rpm and just under the 130km/h... I'm sure she will be fine!
Dave200 Posted 14, September 2011 Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 Pretty sure they are redlined as they roll off the production line, i assume to bed in some of the major components. I wouldnt granny the engine too much though as you run the risk of the engine becoming a lemon over time by causing poor seals like piston rings etc
fleets24 Posted 14, September 2011 Author Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 thanks, appreciate it. Definitely haven't been babying it, just don't know how far to push it, and remembering to change up the rmp and gears reg.
Gezza Posted 14, September 2011 Report Share Posted 14, September 2011 Just drive it normally under 3k rpm for the 1st 1000km's will be fine then
SteveBlackXT Posted 19, September 2011 Report Share Posted 19, September 2011 Done 700ks with no changes over 5500 will be running to Melb in a few weeks to hopefully finish the run in. 1720ks there and back plenty of long hills, no cruise control so should be sweet. Oil changed at 500 and then when I get back from Melb run.
portal Posted 19, September 2011 Report Share Posted 19, September 2011 Oil changed at 500 and then when I get back from Melb run. Why?
SteveBlackXT Posted 19, September 2011 Report Share Posted 19, September 2011 Not wanting to hijack this thread, first change to get any new engine metal crud out the oil and the engine. Pretty much the same reason after the long run to Melb. Then leave the oil. Ive always changed oil every 5/6000ks, just personal preference
