ceejay Posted 2, December 2010 Report Share Posted 2, December 2010 Hi All, After 22 years in the wilderness with Fiats, Saabs, Alfas, Subarus etc, another renault finally graces the Garage. The first was a 1978 bright yellow Virage, and now a red 2002 Clio 172. Bought the clio cheap and sight unseen in Melbourne last week via E-bay, a victim of the March hail storms. Slapped an unreg vehicle permit on it and drove home to Goulburn NSW without incident, and was very impressed. A slight exhaust leak required rectification prior to rego, but unfortunately since the repair the clio has developed an annoying miss under acceleration, seemingly alternating between running on 3 and 4 cylinders....@#$%^&!!. Service light & Airbag light coming on intermittently as well. Any thoughts on potential causes / fixes would be helpful?? Cheers Ceejay
Wolf Posted 2, December 2010 Report Share Posted 2, December 2010 Hi Ceejay, Welcome aboard and hope the fix is a quick one. When you start talking warning lights and misfires, i'd be looking for a good Renault Mechanic. No idea of distance for you from Sydney are, but i constantly hear good things about Paul V - AP Automotives. (02) 9546 4006 87 Planthurst Rd, Carlton NSW You may want to start there as it would be a good starting point. Others will be along soon to say hello and say there piece. Enjoy it soon, and keep us posted. Cheers, WOLF ps: feel free to drop me a line if you need any new parts for this or in the future.
BG 172 Posted 3, December 2010 Report Share Posted 3, December 2010 Another useful thing to seek out may be an RS tuner. They can read / reset error codes etc. and re-flash the ecu.. plenty about them around the forum - cheers.
ClioF1 Posted 3, December 2010 Report Share Posted 3, December 2010 Welcome back to the brand mate, agree with wolf regarding taking it to a specialist at least to begin with then you will know where you stand. if i can help with aftermarket/performance parts let me know. ceejay Posted 3, December 2010 Author Report Share Posted 3, December 2010 Thanks for the replies. I suspect a good mechanic will be my first option, but as I commute to the ACT daily if anyone knows a good mechanic there, it would be preferable. As I become more acquainted an RS Tuner will definitely be on the short list (I like to tinker), as will some mods.
ceejay Posted 4, December 2010 Author Report Share Posted 4, December 2010 Hi All, New Plugs today and cleaned the throttle body, no more misses and car definitely more responsive. I can see this forum will be indispensable. Cheers, Ceejay
griffyn Posted 4, December 2010 Report Share Posted 4, December 2010 Airbag light is usually one of the connectors under the front seats. Re-seat the connectors and you should be a-ok
ceejay Posted 4, December 2010 Author Report Share Posted 4, December 2010 Thanks Griffyn, will check connectors in the morning and see how it goes. Cheers, Ceejay
ajf07 Posted 6, December 2010 Report Share Posted 6, December 2010 Hi Ceejay I am also new to this forum and live in Canberra, have bought a 172 that needs some work. I have been told that Alpine motors in Phillip are the local Renault specialists and have been in business here for a number of years. Hope this helps and good luck.
