Welcome to OzRenault. You'll find plenty of info here regarding Renaults and a lot of people happy to share their knowledge. The key things are evidence of regular scheduled services that should be in the service manual. If you want to start an in depth discussion just ask about replacing the timing belts. 🙂 There are many varying views. For mine, I suggest it is just the cost of running an F4RT interference motor. Best place to start is by reading the Meg III technical section here. Hope you enjoy your Renault ownership. Many here do. 🙂
  2. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I'd guess, if this has happened a couple of times, they don't know what they are doing. It may be that they have an unsupervised apprentice doing the work. In any case, if you have had the car serviced regularly, according to your maintenance manual, you should not be liable for the costs under Australian consumer law. I'd suggest you 'swat' up on consumer law and armed with that knowledge go back to the dealer and see what they say. Agree with above comment and would contact Miles at RenoTech for advice. Be advised he can be a bit hard to get hold of. Good luck and let us know how you go.
  3. Welcome to the forum! Not much to worry about but essential that the regular log book services are in evidence. Like any vehicle, if not maintained properly, it will come back to bite you on the bum, eventually. In theory, with the Km on it, it should fine although the timing belt change status should be checked. It being a 2010 they should have been changed a couple of times now. Because they are time specific as well as km specific (which doesn't apply). If you check these things out and comply with what is suggested you should have many more enjoyable Km's. It is worth reading the Meg III technical section on here as it has lots of useful information. Lastly, if you haven't already done so, have some driver training, it will allow you to get the best out of your car. AND do some track days which will allow you to practice your driving in a safe, responsible environment without putting other road users at risk. Hope that helps.

    Another Newbie

Welcome!!! Plenty of people on here willing to share their knowledge if you need. Enjoy your RS owner ship. 🙂
  5. Welcome !!! This will be interesting to follow. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
  6. Yes, I would have thought you shouldn't have an issue. The thing that is forgotten is that a performance vehicle is going to be better, in most cases, because it will do things, like braking and handling (with good tyres), better than others. Obviously a brand new vehicle, in theory, should be safer. BUT ANCAP ratings seem to be variable at best. Meaning cars like a late model Mustang rely on an old ANCAP rating and won't pass a more recent test. Jeep suffer the same issue. You wouldn't carry your kids in either of those, if you valued their safety. I would say if you keep your driver skills up, (not on public roads, go to a track day or two, with good instructors) and drive on public roads in a responsible manner, it will be the best thing you can do for your kids safety. Remember it is the grey matter, between the ears, that is the main arbitare.
  7. Welcome!!! A lot of knowledge, on here to help, if you need it. Enjoy your Renault experience. 🙂
  8. Yeah, sorry to hear of the accident, but glad you have minimal injuries, although I would suggest you follow up on the neck injury. 😥 Sounds like, if you have the inclination and the facilities to part it out, that's probably the way to minimise your costs. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    New to the club

I use RenoTech in Sydney for services. Great people who are enthusiasts themselves. What little they don't know about Renaults they are keen to find out. Enjoy your car, stay safe, in every respect.

Welcome! Best bang for driving fun you'll find. Have had mine for 7/8 years and still love driving it. Also makes me a better driver because I always want to get it right. Advise you to do track days and learn to drive it properly, in a safe environment, if you don't do them already. Also some track day driver tuition, if you haven't done it already. That also lets you resist the urge of using it's performance on public roads. Otherwise, the red and blue light brigade will enjoy handing out the fines. Apart from the fact you need to be considerate of other road users. Post up some pics when you get a chance. AND follow the log book maintenance schedule to maintain reliability.
  11. That's a good way to go. For MY 2012 265 I would be ve...ry lucky to get more than $15 K for it on trade in with a dealer and with any sort of 'bingle' other than 'slight' would probably involve it being written off. Given that comprehensive insurance on mine is probably going to cost $7/800 in October I may go to 3rd party nock as well. Although I pay mine monthly through APIA Insurance. AND while that costs a little more, overall it 'saves' the 'big hit' of having to pay it all at once. Works for me at any rate. 🙂
  12. This !!!! I know what fun is, and don’t think that would be it. It comes back to what was said in a movie once. 'Are you feeling lucky today' (punk)? OR 'some such' quote. For me, I don't seem to have that sort of luck. More likely, that mine would break, the day after it was due. ☹
  13. Agree !!! As Miles, at Renotech, explained to me once, we don't think twice about paying comprehensive car insurance to cover ourselves for accidents. How often do we actually utilise the 'benefits' of that? Belts are just another expense in driving our great cars. If you can't do them yourself, at least RenoTech know what they are doing. AND do it at a good price. I'd suggest if you have a problem with with that. 'Build a bridge and get over it'. IMHO. 😁🤣
  14. Have used you guys for brake needs before and found excellent knowledge/advice has been given. I am considering a tune and trying to assess the 'pros and cons' of the various approaches. As I understand the 'basics' fuel is a 'coolant' and 'leaning it out' (lower AFR) makes for higher running temperatures. Sooo.....I guess it is a matter of being able to find the compromise that doesn't damage your motor. It seems there is a 'difference of opinion' on 'what is safe and what isn't). Who'd of thought? 🤣 There are members on here, that would deal with the issues on a daily basis, to find what 'works'. They may care to share their experience. AND it is 50 years, since I read 'stuff' on this, and in my experience, things/knowledge changes. 🤔 Looking forward to hearing 'input' from others.
  15. What's wrong with a wrap. (RAP) 🤣 I've had it for years. Perfect paint protection I say. AND, if the dealer installed it, it must be good. 😛 Have 3M clear wrap as well. Looking a bit 'ordinary' after 5/7 years and due for a bit of a 'fix up' when I get a 'wild urge' to pay it a bit of attention. I'm sure most are aware of the feeling. 😷
  16. Forgive me, but it seems you are more into the 'bells, whistles and bright lights ' side of driving. If you are really into 'the driving' get a Renault RS Sport. That's what they are about. NOT the latest 'gadgets and driver assists' the car has. Go to a couple of track days, and get some 'driver tuition'. AND the end result will be, you'll have fun, and learn to drive properly. DON'T try to do it on public roads, you will only put other roads users at risk. Apologies if I've misjudged you and it sounds like I'm trying to tell how to 'suck eggs'. It was not my intention. Let us know how you go, so others can benefit from your experiences. 🙏
  17. Double post Having an issue with using the 'Unread Content' button. It usually clears the post and and returns you to the list of unread topics. It's doesn't seem to be happening for me now. Not sure what has happened. Thanks.

  20. ^^ for me to, just read your initial post and your battle with Haemophilia. Glad to hear you are having some success with treatment. By the way, don't listen to @Moosey (what does he know anyway) 😁 Mind you, I've had a Meg III for, coming up 6 years. Probably a little biased. 🙂 I look forward to watching your exploits and the development of your car.

Welcome! Enjoy the drive home! 😀
  22. Welcome ! The car looks great ! What options have you taken on, if any. If it's like my 265 the more you drive it the more you'll enjoy it. Sign up for a track day to learn how to use it 'in the manner intended'. If that appeals to you. 😀

Welcome Dale! There are plenty of knowledgeable people on here willing to share. I would suggest you browse ('troll' if you like 😏) the forum and become familiar with your areas of interest. There is plenty of 'good natured' discussion and humour, on here, that helps pass the time. 😂 A couple of things to try and avoid, Bush fires, climate change, politics, changing the belts, tyres and oil used probably cover most of them. I'm sure other members can think of a few as well. 😁
  24. I don't think they'll ever give you anything in writing about that. Best you'll get is what I wrote, which is what I was told when I enquired both through the central phone number and the dealer. Same message as with other brands. Though I notice with Honda they say any modification voids warranty. Another reason not to buy a type R, as I really wanted more out of the exhaust. Bought my Demo 265 from Hiltons on the Central Coast. They had an exhaust shop fit a 3" soft steel pipe straight thru from the flex joint to an oval rear muffler. Only complaint I have is it wasn't in stainless. Sounds great, although I had to change the rear section 18 months ago, and did it in stainless. Always had the car serviced there until warranty finished and made them aware that I was doing track days. Never had a problem, but I think they would have trouble proving an exhaust caused a wheel to come off or the brakes to fail. 😁😏
