Paintraine Posted 20, May 2016 Report Share Posted 20, May 2016 Hi all, Picked up my Megane RS 250 a couple of months ago - needless to say I'm blown away by this car. This is car number sixteen for me, but it's my first Euro, and it's really opened my eyes to these things. Taken a while to get used to the indicator change etc, but everything about this car is fantastic. I've been doing some research into local (Brisbane based) tuners and mechanics to get an idea of what I want to do with the car, and so far it's looking promising. I am really keen to get some light track time in the car and see what it can do. Have been out to QR a few times in previous cars, but this will be the first time I've dared try a fwd on a track Keen to meet up with some other Renault owners and have a go at the track Cheers, Bruce
No152 Posted 20, May 2016 Report Share Posted 20, May 2016 Welcome to the forum Bruce and great choice. There are quite a few folks on the forum that have and do go track running in their RS cars. Also lots of good advice on mods and what to do and not do (hard fought experience)... Some quite heavily modded Megs about in Brisbane too, so you may get the chance to see them in the real. Lots of members on the forum outside Bris as well have great experience on all things RS, so check out the member's ride and technical advice threads and you will find a mountain of great advice. Hope to see you on a drive day too sometime if you are interested there.
chuckovski Posted 21, May 2016 Report Share Posted 21, May 2016 Good choice, and welcome! Be prepared to be dazzled by the cornering speed - track is a great place to explore the limits. I'd be keen to hear how it holds up against things you've had on track in the past. Being someone who has never owned a proper sports car I've got nothing to compare it to, but holy crap the things is fun around a bend! Paintraine Posted 22, May 2016 Author Report Share Posted 22, May 2016 (edited) Thanks guys I've been through a few cars now, most of which have been front- or all-wheel drive. This is the first fwd I've driven that handles anywhere near what the Frog can do; a run over Mt Nebo in the first couple of days of ownership was quite an eye opener. I've tracked a few cars but never a front wheel drive, so looking forward to seeing what it can do; it's certainly got the brakes for the job. While it doesn't have the power/torque figures that some previous rides have had, it's power:weight is fantastic, so a little bit more juice at the wheels should see it hold it's own quite well One thing I'm a bit confused about is whether mine is a Cup or a Trophee. It's got a lot of the options that I believe the Trophee came with (e.g. 19" wheels, the leather Recaro seats, Arkamys stereo, and looks almost identical to the Trophee pictured in this article: http://www.caradvice.com.au/owner-reviews/2011-renault-megane-renault-sport-250-cup-trophee-review/), but it was sold as a Cup model. I've upgraded the tyres so far but have some aesthetic changes to make before I start getting ECU tuning and exhaust mods under way. chuckovski Posted 24, May 2016 Report Share Posted 24, May 2016 Yes I reckon a trophee too. It has the cornering bixenons too. Good work if you paid cup money for it then! The 250 range was simple, then it got very complicated with the pre-facelift 265s then simple again with the facelift 265.

Thanks mate, yeah I definitely got lucky with this car - found it "on special" advertised as a Cup, and suspected it was a Trophee after doing some more reading. Took it for a test drive and was sold within about 10 minutes of driving it (fortunately the lady who came with me for the test drive insisted on me giving it a decent run!). Booking it in for tints and paint protection in the next month or so, can't wait

Paintraine Posted 25, May 2016 Author Report Share Posted 25, May 2016 I'm in Newstead, Brisbane. I'll check out the Drive day threads, thanks! Keen to meet up with others to get to know more about these cars - I've had a few options presented in terms of tuning and upgrades but would like to hear more from other owners as to what worked and what didn't. It's very different to modifying a Japanese import Heading to the tech forums after the Drive day ones
chuckovski Posted 25, May 2016 Report Share Posted 25, May 2016 Quite a few forum members in Brisbane. Tuning does seem to be much easier with Japanese cars! I'm starting a thread to try and summarise all the tuning options because it's all a bit beyond me.
Paintraine Posted 26, May 2016 Author Report Share Posted 26, May 2016 Quite a few forum members in Brisbane. Tuning does seem to be much easier with Japanese cars! I'm starting a thread to try and summarise all the tuning options because it's all a bit beyond me. Awesome idea - it's been a bit of work searching around for different options, and it would be great to have a one-stop-shop sort of idea for forum members to have a read through and find the info they're after for modifying. I've discovered the RS Tuner devices and the options they provide, have also spoken to a couple of people who have offered to assist with an ECU tune etc. I've also got the names of some places that either get parts in for Renault, or are experienced with working on them (which means a fair bit to me personally in terms of who works on the car). My previous mechanic wasn't too keen on getting involved in working on a Frog as he needs all the specialist tools etc (he may or may not have been kidding when he told me he doesn't want to work on it for me ). Either way, the car is booked in for a run on a dyno at a group Dyno Day in August, which will be great for getting a base read out before I start making any changes to the car. Now booked in for tints and paint correction/protection/opticoat in a couple of weeks
No152 Posted 26, May 2016 Report Share Posted 26, May 2016 Sounds great, they respond well to a fettle of the ECU! Planned drive day on Saturday week if you are interested. Check the Qld drive day thread
