Hey hey!

New to this forum (like duh, why else would I be posting in the newbie's area), have been looking around for a second car for weekends, fun, and such.
Started to run across Meg RS 250's etc while doing research, and thought: heck I don't remember them looking that svelte, that's a sexy looking hatch, with the right number of doors.

Also had a mate buy one here in SA couple months ago, and he's fairly wrapped with it, so here I am!

Once I've got enough money together I'll start looking seriously, I'd like to get a 265 /w Recaro's, but may settle for a 250 if the right one comes along and I've gotten too antsy waiting to save the extra cash.

Also shout out to the guy that made that cool model guide, damn that's been helpful! :)

Alright, cheers everyone!

Hey mate, as a proud Megane RS 250 owner of less than a week I can say that you will have a blast. Common things to look for that I have accumulated over my weeks of research and asking questions in the forums.

1) Aftermarket wheel sizes are hard to come by and are expensive due to the high positive offset needed

2) An RS265 is not 100% worth it. You can get an RS250 for cheaper, put a nicer intake on it, do a mid-box chop and get it remapped. Will pop and crackle more and be more responsive since the 265 just has a revised intake, a smidge more boost and a remap to accompany it. Also the mib-box chop suits the 250 more due to the different muffler design (some with a 265 and mid-box chop have found it to be a bit harsh).

3) Recaro bucket seats are 100% worth it. I love them, make sure that the bolsters are in good nick.

4) Check the front splitter for cracks, they are hard to come by. I didn't see the cracks on mine because they are high up and tucked underneath the bumper.

5) Make sure the service history is up to date and the timing belt is good. I bought mine and found out the belt needed to be replaced (booked in for thursday). I was previously told they last 5 years or 100,000kms (which ever comes first) but the Megane specialist in Perth told me its 4 years not 5 (there goes $1500).

6) If the owner has fitted high quality tyres on it, it is likely to be owned by someone of common sense as these cars are heavily tyre dependent (any Michelin pilot sport, Potenza re003 or Contisport contact tyre is a good sign. Pirellis wear too quickly).

My RS250 Cup Trophy has all the fruit from factory and I love it. The RS Monitor is amazing and my phone works well with it for stereo (sound isn't the nicest but it doesn't really change across the models so it would benefit from an upgrade) and it is just a blast. Will be my daily for going to Uni and back when the weather is nice (I'll drive the family car when it's available when its sketchy conditions such as the massive rainfall we've had recently in Perth.

But all up man it is an incredibly fun car and I look forward to owning mine, modifying it and enjoying it. I'll keep my modifications update when I can on the forum.

So last weekend I bought a RS265 RB7 from Sydney, flew over and drove it back. Was a little freaky driving all along the plains with the floodwaters only a few mill below the road, but no issues.
It's not the best example out there, but a decent price, and I don't mind having a few things to fix in slow time.

Plan for now is just to sort out some issues with it and some TLC. Cruise Control, A/C compressor and the door handle for start, and in the meantime go carve up a few windy roads.
Anyone who's lived in Adelaide or has spent a bit of time here knows how many fun roads there are to choose from!
