Rattler84 Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Im looking at either of these 2013 RS265 cup or 2013 RS265 Redbull RB8? first one is $21k (has RS leather seats and 19" rims) plus on roads the redbull is $29k drive away... both have about the same Ks, Which one do you pick? cheers
ataraxia Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Depends on your preference for non go fast parts but mechanically they are the same. Personally I would go the CUP and buy a set of 18" with semi slicks for track days. Or if your more inclined for tuning some go fast mods. xeno182 Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 With a price difference like that I would definitely go the cup.
shifu76 Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 As much as it might hurt those owners of RB8's on the forum, I don't think they are as collectible as they might expect. Save the $ and get the 265 cup. With the exception of the recaro seats, there's little else to seperate them. Hardly worth the additional spend IMO. chuckovski Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Well the RB8 is the only prefacelift Megane with active bixenon headlights, Recaros, and RS monitor 2.0. for me, a gadget freak, that is worth a lot extra. 8K extra though? That's ... What like 30% more of the price of the cup! That's a lot. 8K brand new yes, not second hand. They do look nice though. I guess you can try haggling and see what you come up with! Both are great cars. As others have suggested the extras you can buy with the change is significant.

I really like the RB8 but just wasn't sure I could handle getting about with Red Bull stickers on my daily drive. Maybe one day I'll pick one up as a weekender. mojo Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 The 265 cup is well spec'd and priced. Looks like the general price for something like that is closer to $25k. Something worth looking for is a 2013 plate that was registered around mid 2014. Reason being you may get lucky as from around mid 2014 they came with 5yr factory warranty as std.
Rattler84 Posted 27, March 2017 Author Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Do you mean the REDBULL should be $25k?? I'm thinking REDBULL should be $28-$29k and the cup should be close to $23-$24k I'm just looking at purchasing for my Toy and not a daily driver as I have a work car and don't wanna rack up the Ks.. I feel the RB8 is a bit more of a collector?? I plan on keeping whichever one for a while, thoughts??
mojo Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 I have an RB8 and love it - so my judgement is slightly skewed. So i say get the Redbull RB8 Mine has the 5yr warranty too - WINNING
Rattler84 Posted 27, March 2017 Author Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Hey Mojo, The more I look at it the more I want REDBULL.. I like the extra bits but more that there's hardly any compared to basic cup..
No152 Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Anything a bit special has a price. If you like the red bull, don't settle and pay the price. The cup price looks good value but it will never be a red bull edition if that is what you really like. It is hard to reconcile "value" so inthesecars itis oftenbest to get the one you really want. They are not cars you buy with the head, they are heart cars. Listen to your heart if you can afford to and you will be happy with your choice. Much better than buying something you perceive to be less and then regret not going with your heart. My two cents... good luck with your choice as both sound like attractive examples ????????
chuckovski Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Second the warranty thing. If the seller doesn't know Renault Australia through their 1800# will tell you how much warranty is left. I bought mine, an MY2013, they said warranty was balance of 3yrs, I got it just under a year old. Almost 2 years later in August I asked for a few small things to be done "before warranty runs out" and they said "there's no rush, it runs out in July" - I almost crapped my pants, I was a month out! Then they said "in 2019". I confirmed with Renault Australia. Happy days. Clearly mine was not registered until after mid 2014 when the 5yr warranty started. Mind you, they appear very well built, so I don't know if it would make much difference. I agree with No157. If you're set on the RB8 go for it, see if you can haggle it down a bit. Active bixenon headlights are awesome.
bugster70 Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Just to throw a spanner in the works, but why have you limited it to these two models only? Everyone's different, but personally I reckon the 'best' pre-facelift model was the Trophy+. Ok, so it's not a limited edition car like the RB, but it had pretty much every extra (bi-xenon lights, sat nav, fixed glass roof, etc) as standard - and this was important to me. The only option was really the Recaro seats, and I made sure I found one with that option (although many people prefer the extra comfort - and heated! - standard leather seats that these cars came with). Just something else to consider. But, for what it's worth, out of the two you've listed, I'd personally go for the RB8.

bugster70 Posted 27, March 2017 Report Share Posted 27, March 2017 Split the difference and buy one of the 8:08s for sale for around 25k Now that's a really good suggestion. If you're after something that's a limited edition, the 8:08 ticks that box, and it has a host of extra goodies too. It was certainly a model I seriously considered buying before settling on the Trophy+ (personally not a huge fan of the RB8, mainly 'cos of the Red Bull branding/stickers, although I have to admit the paint scheme is pretty sensational). pricey Posted 28, March 2017 Report Share Posted 28, March 2017 (edited) Definitely go the cup for the money if it ticks the boxes for you, $8K will get the monitor and stickers....long term probably not worth the money you'll save now. Alternatively get a 250 trophee and get it tuned by race spec tuning Edited 28, March 2017 by pricey
aress Posted 28, March 2017 Report Share Posted 28, March 2017 (edited) I have a liquid yellow 808 that I would part with for $25k.Me too. Well, 25k, plus a case of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1945 and a night with Charlize Theron. And Scarlett Johansson. OK so the other one's probably a better buy. From your perspective anyway. There are more special edition Meg 3s than there are standard ones. Any one of these may or may not have higher long term value than the next, but it's a bit of a lottery really. Buy the one that meets your needs the best, drive and enjoy. Edited 28, March 2017 by aress

Definitely, lots more choice if you cast the net wider. I bought mine from interstate - I live in Canberra and bought mine from a guy in Melbourne (and, funnily enough, the car was originally a Canberra car, so it's now back home! ). Before agreeing to buying the car, I asked the owner to take it to one of the local Renault specialist garages that forum members seem to rate very highly (Alpine Affaire - the other one with a good reputation in Melbourne is Virage Motors) for a health check. The guys at AA did a great job, checked it all over and gave me a call to tell me their views. Gave me the confidence to go ahead with the deal. If the engine was replaced under warranty by Renault, then it should be fine (as long as there are proper records to reflect that this is what actually happened). And if the guys at Virage gave it a clean bill of health, that'd be good enough for me. If this car is still under warranty, then even better. adam976 Posted 2, April 2017 Report Share Posted 2, April 2017 For your oil, filters and checkup shouldn't be more than $300-$400. Obviously depends if you go to the dealer, or Independent specialist.

Sjr657 Posted 3, April 2017 Report Share Posted 3, April 2017 (edited) Haha just a running joke on the forum in the for sale threads. Yep, timing belt which I understand are 4 years or 100,000kms. Water pump and accessory belts are often changed as well for preventative maintenance to save labour costs down the track. I think its a bit over $1k for that work at an independent if required. Dealerships I've seen mention of $1.5k and up. Mine aren't due until next year, so this is all second hand info. Sjr657 Posted 3, April 2017 Report Share Posted 3, April 2017 I think 5 year warranty applied for cars sold after 1 July 2014. But someone can chime in if thats wrong - I get mixed up as to whether it's compliance date or sale date. Haha I'd be very surprised if it is. I thought, in the likely course, you would get your 3 fixed and then the next one you get hit hard for belts soon thereafter.

Sjr657 Posted 4, April 2017 Report Share Posted 4, April 2017 (edited) http://www.detailparadise.com.au/showthread.php?10195-Renault-Megane-RS250-Trophee-White-Opti-Coat/page2 It is likely a reference to microns. I dug up a thread above indicating readings of around 110 on a white rs250. The opinion is that those readings are lowish, but I've seen references to much lower readings on new cars from Mazda and Hyundai. The same detailer mentioned in another thread that he had readings of between 160 and 190 on a LY, so not 100% sure what the RB8 should be at. Did the inspector express an opinion? Rattler84 Posted 4, April 2017 Author Report Share Posted 4, April 2017 Nah he just showed a pic like I was meant to know what it meant haha.. I googled and few said anything under 100is low-ish but it just means you use an easier/softer cutting agent (whatever you call it) He rated the car overall highly. Tyres will need changing soonish and there's a couple bits of gutter rash but nothing that can't be tydied up.. Super pumped to pick it up now.. Sjr657 Posted 4, April 2017 Report Share Posted 4, April 2017 Yeah 101 definitely doesn't scream clear coat failure. You might also consider having a pro apply a ceramic paint protection product (e.g. opti coat, ceramic pro, cquartz) to act as a de-facto clear coat. That way swirls etc will just be in the ceramic. Sounds great mate. Keep us updated when you pick it up
rob 240 Posted 6, April 2017 Report Share Posted 6, April 2017 was talking to Panda Detailing at Padstow recently as he'd just done a Clio3 200 and a Clio 4 and the paint was about 110 which is about right for the type of car and market position . LY might be thicker due to the number of layers required to get it looking so great he said a more expensive merc/beemer is about 150 and that the ceramic coat is a good idea on RS

Sjr657 Posted 7, April 2017 Report Share Posted 7, April 2017 Great to hear you are enjoying it! As I understand: Unlocks the additional 15hp and 20nm of torque over the 'normal' mode rs250 tune Increases throttle sensitivity (more noticeable in sport and extreme modes) Dials back intervention of traction control etc Exhaust note changes (I assume this has something to do with the more aggressive 'tune' being activated May be more things that I don't know about
