Melbourne To Brisbane Plus A Renault Clio Sport

I reckon you should do a cheeky run UP Mount Buffalo while you're driving past. Very good twisty road and only a slight detour.

Also, I know this route is a bit longer, but if you could push past Yass and start from Goulburn on the 2nd day, this inland route would be epic:

You would be much quicker than the suggested time as there's some very high speed stuff and next to no traffic. Putty Rd is good but mainly the last bit is twisty. Whereas the road from Walcha to Port Macquarie is absolutely amazing and possible the best road in NSW.

This is even longer and takes in Thunderbolts way via Dungog. Makes me excited just thinking about all these roads!

EDIT: just saw your day 3 route, taking in Port Mac - Walcha. Oh well, I'd be surprised if you didn't want to do it twice anyway!

Can't do Mt Buffalo without snow chains (carrying is compulsory). The forecast is for snow showers.

He'd have to hire them, pay an entrance fee....

Would be awesome in non-winter conditions though. Also time is a factor. That first day is a long one.

Edit: FYI, when you leave Healesville you will drive through the Black Spur one of our most famous roads.

Safe driving!

Ok pulled up stump at Holbrook. Drove through Healsville and the Black spur. Through Mansfield, Whitfield and onto Beechworth. And some back roads to Holbrook. Didnt quite do what I had planned due to a late start leaving Mornington. Had to watch the boomers take on the deam team..Didnt get out of Dandenong until 1130! Up to Whitfield was awsome twisty section then from Whitfield to Oxley opened up lovely. Nice longer sweepers, beautiful back drop.

Next bit, early start up the Hume take an exit on the old Hume up through Penrith then onto Putty Rd. Putty road looks imposing, should I do it? Does it go through the blue mountains.

Grrr how do I upload photos here. Not the playing the game..

West or East of the Blue Monutains?? Probably could do the Oxley twice...This west road looks, like you say, epic... Edited by Proset

Putty isn't imposing. Tight and steep at the the start then fairly long and winding for ages then a nice tight twisty bit at the end coming into Milbrodale.

Going west of the blue mountains will take a lot longer as it's essentially all "back roads". Much more interesting but yeh, a lot more time.

Oxley HWay.....OMG! It must be done...

Sorry I had to take a raincheck on the Oxley, I was looking forward to it.

Paul and I had managed to catch up yesterday on his way through and do the Putty Road :) It turned a few heads seeing not just one BO Clio, but two.

After doing the first section we stopped in at Grey Gums Cafe for some lunch and then shot through the top section, before I turned around and headed home while Paul headed off towards Dungog :(

I am so looking for spots in my Calendar to go and do the Oxley run.

You had to get your car in the forefront of the photo.

I thought the whole point of this thread was the Victorian Clio making its journey north to QLD.

Nothing about the NSW plated F1 Cup trying to take the line light.

I'm surprised you even let part of his wheel get into the shot, not surprising that we can't see the VIC on the rego plate. I don't know, you N.S.Welshman.

Lol yeah, I did think about that...so I waited for Paul to post some pics, but I think he's having trouble with pics...

Anyway, Qld 1 - Vic 0

Nice pick up of the BO 182. We were pretty certain you were the one who bought it.

Noted and will be checking it out in December when coming from Brisbane to Melbourne :D

Anyone know if the B60 Bruxner Highway from Tenterfield to Casino and Lismore is all sealed road?

I'm very sure that it is. I'm sure that I drove it recently. You might be able to check on google streetview.

It is all sealed but it is rough in places and some narrow bridges along the way. Pretty scenery though!!

It was when I was up there a couple of years ago. As I remember it there were road works in some sections. Pretty much as speka outlined. Still an enjoyable drive if you get a clear run. Enjoy the run.  :D

Home safe and sound...

Here's the route I took. Some amazing bits, some places I would avoid and everything in between.

And yes photos are being problematic. Taken some brilliant shots but all are too large... Samsung phone...grrr.

Thanks again Ace for the drive. Hope I wasnt slowing you down too much... I saw a few people do a double take with the Blood Orange blur..

I think I agree, BO best colour. But I am biased now.

Photos will be coming.

Glad you enjoyed your adventure, and good you could catch up with Ace too.

Yeah I thought I would even up the BO count. Too many down south.. but then again Ive never seen one in Brisbane then I saw two BO cars a couple weeks apart. Might be the same car. Anyhow there is definitely two in Brissy now.

  • 1 month later...

Instead of creating a new thread, may as well revive this old one.

Tweed Heads to Tamworth.

Option A: Pacific Highway past Coffs Harbour then B78 to Armidale. Google map reckons 7 hours drive.

Option B: Pacific Highway to Port Macquarie then B56 Oxley Highway. Approx 8 1/2 hrs, which is rather too long.

Is Oxley Highway really worth the extra 1.5 hours?

Also, a tank of fuel lasts only 400-450km and I'd much prefer not having to fill up with anything other than 98 octane. The route should go through decent size towns with with servos selling 98 octane. No room for fuel jerry cans even without any luggage.

How's Pacific Hwy from Gold Coast to Port Macquarie? Still single lane most of the way and full of road works?
