adam976 Posted 25, January 2017 Author Report Share Posted 25, January 2017 The owner was so sad to part it, he told me "you better take care of it" I have to credit the negotiations to my dad, he has so much experience I'm still learning from him. I'm still getting used to the clutch I'm a bit choppy but a mate is helping me out so should be good in a few weeks. noted about the seats will take care of them
No152 Posted 25, January 2017 Report Share Posted 25, January 2017 Cool. Looking forward reading your family's reviews on here. Happy to help by the way. Welcome to the Clio club. I know you are already talking about selling in a couple of years. Don't be surprised if: 1/ You can't bear to part with it. or 2/ If you sell it you will immediately regret it. Or you end up with a Megane... noted about the seats will take care of them Make sure to instruct all passengers in the correct entry and egress technique to look after the seat bolsters... They will love you for it. Eventually....
apple3337 Posted 25, January 2017 Report Share Posted 25, January 2017 Or you end up with a Megane... Then you'll really regret selling it Only way around that is to have 2 RS in the garage.
adam976 Posted 26, January 2017 Author Report Share Posted 26, January 2017 Hey guys! Here are some photos of my clio The last two I included, it appears that the bumper is sort of not clicked in all the way into place. No physical damage on the bumper maybe it was taken off at some point. Doesn't really concern me, but curious to what it could be ? Thanks!
apple3337 Posted 26, January 2017 Report Share Posted 26, January 2017 My white one has an ill fitting bumper on the front left under the headlight. I've read on a UK forum that some cars have the same issue. I'll take it to a panel beater to see what can be done when I get around to it. adam976 Posted 26, January 2017 Author Report Share Posted 26, January 2017 Yeah it's not that much of an issue to me. Still looks fine. Very hard to tell. On another note, the pops on Upshifts are AMAZING!
Treza360 Posted 26, January 2017 Report Share Posted 26, January 2017 Pulling the front bar off isn't that hard. There's some how to guides on Clio197.net. Just take it slow the first time you do it and work out how it's all done and make sure you've got all the clips, bolts and screws etc. Have a good look around how it goes together then just work it out when you put it together. Should work it out pretty easily. Cheers.

adam976 Posted 29, January 2017 Author Report Share Posted 29, January 2017 Thanks! Quick question: with this synchro issue. Hasn't appeared on my car, but was it a common issue for the 2010 200s? How exactly can you tell if it's developed it? If it did fail on me, approx how much would it cost to rebuild/replace. First Renault ownership so just getting an idea of potential costs I should expect. Cheers
apple3337 Posted 29, January 2017 Report Share Posted 29, January 2017 Can't help with the synchro question but did you ask the seller about the ill fitting front bumper? Did he explain why it was like that?
adam976 Posted 29, January 2017 Author Report Share Posted 29, January 2017 No I did not ask him. But if I push it in it clicks into place - comes back out eventually. Not really concerning me tbh. Just came back from driving and noticed that sometimes it doesn't want to get into gear (upshifts) could just be me I'm not that experienced with manual. Other than that can't complain
BUSGO Posted 30, January 2017 Report Share Posted 30, January 2017 Great buy. With respect to the syncro. You will find sometimes on 3rd or 4th gear that it is reluctant to slot in even if you have the clutch fully depressed. After a while you may start to hear and feel a slight grinding as it drops into those gears or one of them. If this happens, you should get it fixed by a gearbox specialist as soon as you can to prevent it getting to a costly gearbox replacement or overhaul. As far as your QLD rego is concerned, you obviously will need to get a blue slip for NSW rego and return the QLD plates for which you will get NO refund on the remaining rego if there was any. Other than that can't complain Take your time with your gear shifts (up and down). Don't try to do it really, really fast. It will change smoother if you do this and it's better for the gear box. Drive smoothly with all your driver inputs.
SimonH Posted 30, January 2017 Report Share Posted 30, January 2017 It is also worth giving the cables a lube. Made a big improvement to mine.
adam976 Posted 30, January 2017 Author Report Share Posted 30, January 2017 Yup, I'm taking your advice and slowly shifting. Sometimes when I downshift, to go around a corner revs kinda rise a little than jump up. I usually just blip the throttle to make it a smoother. I'm still learning and getting smoother by the day almost got hillstarts just a little more practice.

I find gear 1 and 2 shifting smoothly when you engage the clutch more slowly unless you rev it some more. Uphill in traffic ????
apple3337 Posted 30, January 2017 Report Share Posted 30, January 2017 For the manual noobs. Ideally when you change up a gear the RPM needle will not deviate when you release the clutch. That means the clutch plates are spinning at the same rate when they come together = GOOD! Going up hill and downshifting - just keep the accelerator motionless and the revs will rise to just the right point to rev match (the clutch plates as above). Braking and downshifting - heel toe technique. Now it's getting tricky. Look it up on youtube/google.

adam976 Posted 31, January 2017 Author Report Share Posted 31, January 2017 When going around a corner I usually just lift off the accelerator, clutch in, and quickly blip the throttle whilst changing into gear. I don't necessarily use it when braking, sometimes I just want to go into a lower gear to accelerate

R182 Posted 31, January 2017 Report Share Posted 31, January 2017 Keep in mind (depending on your foot size and the pedal configuration) it can be more like using the side of your foot rather than the heel. Sometimes this confuses people. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

adam976 Posted 3, February 2017 Author Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 So today, I was accelerating from a stop, went to shift into second but accidentally shifted into neutral and when I hit the accelerator it hit the rev limiter and some light flashed on the dash - followed by a sound. It was purely a mistake! Tell me it's not going to cause issues, or did I do some serious damage?
apple3337 Posted 3, February 2017 Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 That's the rev limiter going off. That's how you drive them (well some of the time anyway). No harm done, but not ideal to do it in neutral though.
adam976 Posted 3, February 2017 Author Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 It was an honest mistake one off- it did happen in neutral. So I didn't damage anything?
apple3337 Posted 3, February 2017 Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 Highly unlikely any harm done. Relax and enjoy the car.
Treza360 Posted 3, February 2017 Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 Cheers, - Sent via TapaTalk The light and buzzer is the shift indicator indicating the optimal time to shift (when driving at speed). Leave it a bit longer and you'll bounce off the rev limiter which will slow you down. Prolonged bouncing off the limited is not going to prolong engine life. Cheers, - Sent via TapaTalk
adam976 Posted 3, February 2017 Author Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 When it happened it hit the rev limiter for a second or two, and I quickly put it back into gear. I guess you live and learn

s9810588 Posted 3, February 2017 Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 I went to a Come & Try at Sandown a couple of months ago just for fun laps. Got told off by the "instructor" because I double clutch heel-and-toe! He insisted I should just brake and slam the gear stick into the next gear down. Can you please knee him in the balls a few times Matt? Who knows what other bad habits he's teaching to the new comers!

apple3337 Posted 3, February 2017 Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 (edited) Whaaaaa?! Don't worry Dave I certainly enjoy the car as intended. There are 2 parts to this. 1/ The later Clio's have the multifunction display (aka RS monitor) which shows the optimum gear you should be in for maximum acceleration. 3/ There is the shift change light/beep on the dash. youtube videos show this coming on at around 7200 rpm. I'm pretty certain the RS monitor tells you to change gear a lot sooner than the gear change light/beep on the dash. If so which one do you use as a guide? Is the one on the dash just warning you to change because the red line is close? Edit. Just went for a drive. In 2nd gear, when the tacho reached 7250 the RS monitor shift indicator and dash shift light/beep were in sync. IE both said change gear at the same time. Car was doing a tad over 90 kph... R182 Posted 3, February 2017 Report Share Posted 3, February 2017 Never really thought these added much unless you have an F1 and the revs come around so quick you can't react... or a rotary where you can't remember where the revs end.
