@ozrenaultsport.com ..

Would it be cool, and would you pay a fee for one?

  1. 1. Would it be cool, and would you pay a fee for one?

    • Yes indeed.. I would love my own @ozrenaultsport.com

    • No Dave, that is a dumb idea, I am embarrased to be associated with you by car ownership

    • This has already been explored, and is just not feasible

Just a quick question.. That I could probably ask in a PM. But anyhow..

Has any thought been put into leasing out @ozrenaultsport.com email addresses. I wouldn't mind shelling out for one.. If you charge me more than the cost of it to the site.. = $$$ for the site.

Just a thought.. as I have been emailing elf etc. the last few days.. and it would be rad.. oh enough of that.. you get my jist,

Well we obviously own the url and depending on the site hosts email account

rules we should be able to host a number of ozrenaultsport.com email

addresses. Any emails to these new email accounts would then be forwarded to any

nominated email account so for instance I could buy biologist@ozrenaultsport.com

and any emails sent to that address would automatically be forwarded to my

normal work address or whatever address I wanted, unless of course you needed

to log onto the ozrenaultsport.com site to collect your emails.

I already have this arrangement in place for another web site I administer and

a mate who runs yet another website has several email addresses for various

roles he maintains on the site. As far as what the email address is worth

depending on how many we could host, from $20-50 per annum maybe?

The more addresses available the cheaper the cost of course. I'm all for it.

Cheers,

:D

Who actually owns the hosting for this site? Does this web host limit the number of email addresses?

Scott.

The admins are currently investigating this option. To get a feel for how many addresses we would need to cater for, please post here that you are interested in having an ozrenaultsport.com address.

Note that this would only be a alias, ie a forwarding setup to go to an existing email address. Its not a mail server.

But it is a hot discussion.. thanks for your patience!!

Progress Report on this one -

from a technical persepective we could currently potentially offer ozRS users an @ozrenaultsport.com email account.

The problem is that at the moment the way that it would work is as follows:

eg. moosey@ozRS sends a message to another email address, say a hotmail address of one of my imaginaery friends  . Addressee sees sender as per address on left (ie @ozRS).

Addressee replies to moosey@ - which is redirected to secondary email account (see previous posts in this thread).

moosey replies - @ozRS.com extension is now lost - email now comes from secondary account name.

Does this make sense? Not very useful in our (the admins) opinion.

We're currently trying to find out if we can do the job properly. If not we don't think it's worthwhile to go with the half-cocked version. Comments?

If you have an account that is linked to a internet provider that is POP3 Based, You just change the email address to what you wish..

As an example I have an email whatever@d82.cjb.net, However It forwards to my ISP Account, and I recieve emails and send emails via the ISP's Server, (using log in and password for my ISP account), However at the other end it appears to come from whatever@d82.cjb.net

Eg. These are what the settings need to be... (Outlook - Is also handy for managing important appt. etc, i.e drive days)

pop1.JPG

And the end result is..

pop2.JPG

This is also really handy to send completely fake emails that you know won't be traced by anybody with much IT knowledge

However free services (like Hot POP etc.) do not let you do this.

Dave

(Hell that made more sense than your post anthony  )

I for one still have reservations about giving out @ addresses to people that I haven't had the opportunity to vet. And then even the ones that I have vetted may turn out to do something fairly naughty (or illegal), intentionally or otherwise, using their @ address and bring the site and possibly the admins into disrepute, or worse, face legal action. Paranoia perhaps, but that's my position. If you look at the fundamentals of what this site is about - it's sharing the knowledge and social interaction. It isn't really about email addresses or selling stuff. There are specialist sites like Hotmail, Google Mail and eBay for this sort of thing.

Feel free to flame away, guys.

I was just thinking, to pay for the new accounts, if its going ahead, we could get like pens and note pads (or other stuff) with ozRS printed on them to help

cover the costs, as is currently being done with the stickers, its also a good way to promote the site aswell. Just an idea, but atleast when we are paying for

this, we are getting something tangible aswell to show that we are members of ozRS. It maybe a stupid idea, but its just a thought to help cover the costs,

cos i think people would be interested - or maybe not :?

Valid points raised,

The problem would lie with people portraying to be all high and mighty and the opinion being of the ozrs site itself, something that can be done without an email address.

But if concerns are there.. jolly good.. thats 1 vote for the third option. :( looks like i'm stuck with my @clio-stylers.co.uk,

guess we could always have a sausage sizzle to get some funds.. or a chocolate drive

Sounds like a good idea... unfortunately I am a poor uni student who wants to spend all his money on extractor back exhaust, new intake manifold, ecu, cams and what ever you guys recommend, seriously... want a track car for the road. I also noticed a set of eight piston brake kits for our car's on ebay atm. :D

Sorry, off topic I know but I cant do anything else until the activation of my account.
