Recovering Car Modification Addict

Hello all,

I'll try not to waffle incase I bore anyone.

My name is Rohan, and on the weekend I purchased an RS 250 Megane.

Up until this point I have only owned MX5s, my latest one was extensively modified. Engine, suspension/wheels/tyres, full leather re-trim (done by myself), steering wheel, gauge cluster, front bumper... you name it I changed it:

It was turbo-charged and was very, very quick.

But it would be with this much power and a sub-1000kg weight.

I had a reality check a couple of months ago when I finished uni and was offered a job at the Bureau of Meteorology. The MX5 was modified beyond insurance, EPA and Police guidlines so I was forced to take it back to stock and find a car that can get me places without being arrested!

My criteria were tough to satisfy and I considered everything from a WRX, 130i, XR5 and Type R. I had looked at the Renault's but they were outside of my $15k price point, however, a friend on the MX5 forum (also on here, Hi Peter!) alerted me to an RS 250 for sale in Moe for a good price. I was skeptical but the car seemed well taken care of after contacting the previous owners by email (found on the service receipts).

You guys seem to have a really nice forum here, so I'm looking forward to chatting about Renaults with you all. Although I bought this car to solve a problem born out of car modification, I might be doing a couple of bits and pieces which I will share.

Welcome.

We can't help car modification-addicts recover. We can say "do it tastefully" but it doesn't really mean that we totally mean it.

Enjoy !

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase.  By all accounts, you snapped up a bargain with that one - a forum member here, and a pretty fastidious owner it seems.

Let the mods begin...

Oh, sorry, you did say you wanted to give that up didn't you...

Yeah, unlikely to get much support on this forum for that, but we will do our very best.  Won't we...?

But seriously, I'm sure an ECU re-tune and some coil overs wouldn't really count as mods.. Not in the sense of you still recovering from an addiction to modding and all...   8)

Well I guess they treat heroin addition with methadone... I can't just go cold turkey!

That's the spirit!!  You have to ease into treatments to make them effective...

Resonator deletion and other exhaust mods can be a small start...  Just saying...

Car has a resonator delete already, still on the quiet side but pops and bangs on the over-run. Very nice indeed  8)
