Recommended Posts

Hi guys, this is my first post and looking for a little help.

Im currently looking for a rs 265 12-13 model been looking at cups and trophys but what are the main differences between the two?

Ive seen a 12 model trophy on car sales here in qld that has the recaros but it doesmt seem to have zenon headlights could it be a cup with the recaro seats optioned?

Any info would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome

Unfortunately this is the most complicated thing I've ever come across - the Renault model nomenclature of that era.

The 250 was simply cup and trophy, and the more recent are cup and cup premium (with a limited edition or two).

From memory there was the: sport, cup, cup+, trophy, trophy+, rb7, rb8, and another one or two.

All I know is that I simply went for the trophy+ because it had everything I wanted (but also had the sunroof that I didn't want).

The rb8 is also one with all the fruit but also it had the updated r link monitor and Recaros.

If you're after active bixenon headlights then all I can guarantee is that the trophy+ and rb8 had them.

What else is on your wish list?

Hope that helps...

Welcome to the forum, and it will be good to see another Queensland member in a Meg.

Chuck's post above pretty much sums it up.  If you are after more reading on it though, there is a thread in the Meg III section of the forum that does discuss the various elements in more detail, but it boils down to as Chuck said above.  Want awesome dark blue colour with extra decals and some nice aesthetic touches (and still the Xenons), get the RB8.  If you want different colour choices and Xenons with Recaros, go the Trophy +.  Viola - the complex just made easy... :news:

What in particular are you seeking?  If it's Bi-xenons and Recaros (nice choices by the way), then the options Chuck said for the 250 are pretty much it. Good news though is that all those you are looking at with Recaros will have the LSD, which is a must have if you ask me.

Good luck with your search, and hopefully we will read soon about your new ride. Will you be keeping the 172?  If not there will be a queue forming - starting in Sydney - to buy it from you...

Thanks guys and thanks for the quick responses.

As i was looking into the 265 rs i found 2 different chassis options one being a sport and the other the cup chassis, then read that this was the case for other markets not Australia (more confusion). Why so many different varients for one model!

Im looking for a 265 with recaros being my first must and do they all come with the R monitor? I know like you was saying some models came with the updated R monitor. An LSD is also a must and bi zenons would be a bonus but would rather not have the sunroof version.

Oh and my clio 172 is sold sorry i wanted to put it as previous cars but only gave me option for current car i will change it soon as i get the meg.

It's good to narrow down the "must haves" as that helps to navigate the options on the 250s.  There was more confusion at that time than any other in French history since Hitler rolled into Paris... It's hard to know what the marketing guys in Renault were thinking then, or even if they were thinking at all....

Chassis options were simple as you say - mostly Cup variants.  We did get a few Sport chassis Megs, but these were all the Gendarme Blue only, so easy to spot from that respect.  They had no LSD, softer suspension and no Recaros, so you can easily rule them out.  All the others had the Cup suspension, which means the LSD is there.  Happy days.

From there, it gets stupidly confusing with the 250s, as Renault had the Trophy versions, which all had Recaros, and the Trophy + that also had the glass roof and Xenons, and the Reacros too I think.  To make it confusing, it was possible to option up these on the Cup, so you may find a fully loaded Cup that is not a Trophy or Trophy + that still has what you are seeking.  Go figure...

Add to that the limited editions, like the 8.08 and RB8, which both have what you are seeking as "must haves" - Recaros and LSD - and you have a starting point.

Not sure about the R monitor in the 8.08 - I think they do - but definitely in the RB8.

The 8.08 are a nice variant, and can be found in LY and pearl white, with both look awesome on the Meg IMO.

Hope that helps...

EDIT.  Forgot to add, the Cup variants didn't have the keyless entry/start, which I'm thinking you will want as well.  This was in the Trophy, Trophy+ and the LE models...

And to add further to the confusion, you're talking about 250s when it should be 265 etc etc. :news:

When you think about it, Renault have almost managed to achieve the impossible. I.E. They've buggered around with the R.S. Megane model variants so much that the non L.E. variants have pretty much become limited editions themselves!

Hey guys i went amd checked out the 2012 265 trophy. It only has 36k but was built 07/2012 was sold in 2013 the timong belt has not been changed do you agree it does require changing?

I also found the brake peddle had quite alot of side to side play is this normal?

The drivers door check strap is also clicks really bad.

This is the link to the car if your interested. Thanks again guys.

I would get the belts done if it were for me. Should not be side okay in the pedal but probably easily fixed. Door probably live only. Would pay to get it checked by specialist and do fill vehicle search.

Low kms sounds good

My 265 also has some side to side play, maybe it's a design flaw. Will need to get it checked out next time I'm in for a service.

I have the same. Annoying. At least it sounds like it's normal.

It's hard to tell from the photos but I'm not convinced they're bixenon headlights, and I didn't think that red 265s came with yellow seatbelts.

Also the seller has put that it has non cost option 18" alloys on, and it definitely has the 19" steev alloys.

May mean nothing but to me it points to someone who isn't that detailed and/or into their car. Not sure how much that counts!

Keep looking is my advice... Maybe come back to it

For a few bucks more you can get the pick of the bunch IMHO, very low km

No it does not have the bi zenons, they are the second owners. The paper work states its a trophy and it has the bucket recaros and keyless entry/start and the yellow seatbelts were an option so they say! The description is pretty poor and they were pretty clueless about the car, seems like it was just bought for the missis to drive to work and back. I really like the red but im not going to just jump in and buy thanks for your advice guys.

Jsr85, I just took my car to service today regarding the brake pedal play and the service advisor has told me its normal as the same thing with his own RS275.

There's some play when the brake pedal is not pressed, but when you step on it and put force on it the pedal is stable. Unfortunately it cannot be fixed, its how it is

Well that could also be the basis of a good negotiation ... Having said that I get scared of people who know nothing about their cars!
