New Meg R.s. Just Arrived!

Hi everyone. Finally got my RS 275 cup premium 3 weeks back. Traded my '13 Fiesta ST for it (which I loved). The Meg's not run in yet, so I've yet to explore its full virtues, BUT...... After all the criticism I've read about the ride, it feels like a limo compared to the FiST. 1st impressions = Excellent! One mistake I did make on order was Black. It looks superb for the first 10 seconds after you finish waxing it, then it's all pollen & dust. So in 3 weeks it's been washed 5 times & waxed twice (call me anal if you like). Last wash & wax was Monday, it rained Tuesday, guess what I'm doing on Sunday!

Great choice! Enjoy - both the driving and the washing and the waxing... ????

Welcome!

Great choice. There are varying theories on running in if you want to search through the forum, but essentially babying it for the first 1000km the consensus is that it's not as good as putting it through the whole rev range, and some change the oil after the 1000km mark. Then others say with modern engine components it's not much of an issue.

Either way, hope you're enjoying it. If you're up for it, subscribe to your local drive day thread and catch up with some like minded people.

We all tend to love the fiesta st here!

Thanks everyone, & chuckovski ( Jesus Christ, spell check just changed your name to " check ovaries ", thank god I had my wits about me for a change). With the run in, most of it has been in & out of work, I.e. Sinnamon park to Sumner park...less than 6 kms, so I can't really give it too much grief as it's barely warmed up when I get there. Weekends however are a bit different, I still don't stress the car & haven't gone much beyond 4500 at about 2/3 throttle, then make sure the last 5-10 kms are done at a nice gentle pace. This weekend I'm off to the gold coast, so should hit the 8-900 kms mark & may consider giving it a bit of stick a few times on the way back, with a nice long cool off when I get close to home.

I would never call you anal. Retentive maybe, but never anal. Welcome to black car ownership!

I trust my racing colleagues with their recommendation of doing an oil change IMMEDIATELY and then after reaching optimal operating temperature driving it like you stole it. This approach has certainly worked for me with engine life AND maximum output potential.

So......how do I post a photo, I'm a mechanic & welder, so therefore pretty much forum illiterate. Actually I'm surprised I can type!

Check ovaries - love it! And I hope you took spell check's advice, and hope yours are doing ok. It does roll off the tongue somewhat and could be an appropriate forum nickname ... maybe time for a change!

Anyway, as Dook said:

Just to elaborate on this, and I can't find the thread link so I'm quoting from memory, someone made the comment on why this is sensible. Actually I can't remember the reasons, but the advice they gave was that within the first 100km to take it through the rev range (after it's warm) to provide plenty of negative and positive pressure (my understanding is something like accelerating is positive, and lift-off/overrun is negative) - they have a local run up a hill and down it, take it through there a few times and are satisfied about the engine doing what it needs to do.

As a mechanic I hope I'm not patronising you, but this is stuff I've learnt through this forum which all makes sense. There's also Engineering Explained on Youtube which goes through all sorts of things like what you shouldn't do to a turbo. Most is common sense but I learnt that "warm" isn't warm enough when it comes to turbos and flogging them - so his advice was wait until it's warm and then wait some more.

Perhaps if you're in Brisbane you could go up and down Mt Coot-tha a few times (when there aren't cops there trapping you) after your engine is well warmed up. Looks like you're not too far from No152 either - he's an encyclopaedia on everything cars and is a great guy to boot, would be a great driving day buddy.

If you're off to the coast then I'd pay attention to varying the throttle throughout your trip as I've heard that having it sit on freeway speeds can create flatspots. But the way morons sit in the overtaking lane up your way I have a sense that you'll be speeding up, slowing down, and speeding up a lot!

Overall the reports on the forum are that doing this frees up better fuel economy and power. Though these reports are complicated by the admission from Renault that they make sure that the power the cars leave the factory with is "at least" 275hp, and it's no surprise to them that throughout the world dynos show more than that.

As for uploading photos through a browser I have no idea. I just installed Tapatalk on my phone and it's much easier that way! It's also easier to follow a thread because once you've posted in it you're automatically subscribed (I think).

What are your thoughts on the exhaust? I'm wondering what you really could do with it because any mods would require titanium I presume (I'm no expert by any means).

You're not wrong, negative & positive pressures being applied generally = a good gas seal internally as long as you don't over do it & generate too much heat, and do it progressively. And you're spot on with letting a new engine sit at the same rpm for long periods. A mate of mine in the U.K. Was given a brand new Jaguar XK8 company car and at 16000 miles (20-22000kms) it was blowing blue smoke, diagnosed as glazed cylinder bores. He was a sales manager and spent all of his time on the motorway, cruise set, nuff said! As you've pointed out, I'm not gonna have a cruise to the Gold Coast, as QLD transport seems to have based it's road planning on the M25 London orbital (I.e. Not good!). So I shall be taking a less rural route, more kms, more stops, much more fun and if I want a coffee it won't come from a servo!

Ah I was telling you to suck eggs. Sorry! but glad to know there's more support for that theory. Enjoy the drive!

congrats mate awesome car choice!

Black is an awesome colour - don't regret it. look on the bright side, at least you will be forced to give it the love it deserves - 2 washes a week lol!

do you have a garage?

I used to have a black car but it was parked outside... it was always a mission to find a nice spot clear from trees/power lines/bird poos. The Mrs never understood why I would prefer to park 200 meters away when there were free spots right outside our apartment lol..

I'll only ever go black cars again once I have the garage space for it =)

pics please!

Oh the exhaust, sorry. I haven't been under the car yet, but I'm assuming that it's just the slip on system, as on the akrapovic site it says that the cat back system is not emissions legal for street use, I'm assuming noise emissions, as it deletes the resonator. They also only list either the slip on, or the cat back, you can't just buy the resonator delete & add it on, so if, on inspection, my suspicions are correct & it is just the slip on with the standard resonator, then I don't see why you can't just have the res cut out & replaced with stainless. Let's face it, a titanium slip on slips on to a dissimilar metal, and Renault certainly don't supply titanium cats as standard, so I think stainless would do the job fine. Would probably save some weight to, purely because of the large chunk of sound deadening removed, me, I'm just after a few more pop's & crackles. Your thoughts on what Warranty would make of me doing this would be much appreciated as A) I've never dealt with Renault Australia, and B) I found a huge difference in compliance/sympathy between Ford uk (and I didn't have a good word to say about them really), and Ford Australia, who from a sales point of view are world better, but from a customer after sales and servicing point of view, are in flexible, un helpful, in competent. Sorry, ford rant over. Do you think Renault would make a fuss about a res delete?

I hope they wouldn't worry about it! But it's so common here. The exhaust shop I went to (cost $70 BTW) said they were doing a couple of Meganes a week. And I didn't think there were that many Meganes in the area!

I'm reluctant to ask the local dealer about any consequences because they're the conduit and I doubt they'd even notice. Anything goes wrong I'll take it in and if they ask I'll mention it otherwise mums the word. As they service our Citroen there too they're pretty easy on us anyway.

I'm guessing you'll be taking it to the dealer you bought from ... And they'll like you even more for that!

And the res delete results in lots of the noise you're after. I grinned for weeks afterwards. Now I'm used to it but when it gives out a burbles, pops and bangs all in one go I just can't stop laughing. In normal mode it is really infrequent so when it happens then it's even better. The other day everything was nice and quiet then suddenly a really loud "bang!!" with no warning. Awesome.

Congrats!

P.S. Look at a snowfoam lance and snowfoam (autobrite is the best IMO) for a touchless wash over your freshly waxed paint [emoji41]

Angelwax Fastfoam is a great product for the lance.

I my self am looking at getting into an RS275 cup premium this week from a Fiesta St.

If you dont mind me asking how much did you end up paying for your car?

Hopefully I will be amongst the RS club soon.

It was either $47.990, or $48.990, with a mere $13.000 trade in on the FiST, which was mint & only had 18000 kms on the clock in the 3 years i owned it. Great choice of car rsd 01........Enjoy!

Well, it was a salary sacrifice car, as is the R.S. & I couldn't be bothered paying 2 leases for X amount of time "till it sold. Such is life. Though I do have an ITM CAI going for any sensible offer, if anyone knows anyone in the market. The drive went really well. the wife is now on first name terms with all the seat bolsters, in fact I've never seen a passenger look so tired after a mere 250 kms. Doing an oil change this weekend, then I can actually use the car as intended. Anyone know where I can get Elf 5w40 around SW Brizzy without paying dealer prices?

Sorry chuckovski, it' a cold air intake kit for the FiST, similar to the K-tec one for the  Megane that locates the air filter behind the front bumper and below the passenger side headlight, but without the need to dismantle half the engine compartment to fit (takes about 1/2 an hour). Imported from the U.K. & only on the car for about 4000 kms. If I shouldn't be putting this on here, please let me know.

Haha all good; I googled it and Cairo to Japan flights were the only results [emoji4]

I think if it's mentioning a great car it's more than acceptable here!
