asterix Posted 10, April 2016 Report Share Posted 10, April 2016 Hi all, I've finally taken the plunge and replaced the venerable old Pug 306 with a Megane 225, absolutely loving it so far. I have been chasing up quotes for a timing belt replacement service. For Brisbane residents, I've seen French Car Care and Le French Moteur recommended here. Is there anywhere else in particular that I should check out? Also, one mechanic suggested having the harmonic balancer done as well. I have read a lot about not tempting fate with regard to the timing belt but do the harmonic balancers ever cause any grief (car is an '04 with 85,000 on the clock)? My first thought was that it would be unnecessary. Cheers
handyman0708 Posted 10, April 2016 Report Share Posted 10, April 2016 Welcome to the Megan scene. What side of Brisbane? I have been going through Revolution Scooter who are a Euro car specialist on the Gold Coast. But this is probably a bit far away for you. 3dr or 5 dr. Km are excellent for the year. Colour? Megan will be a major performance step up from the Pug. Well done.
asterix Posted 10, April 2016 Author Report Share Posted 10, April 2016 It is an orange 5 door. I am in the western suburbs but since I don't do too many kms I am not beyond going down the coast for a good mechanic, especially for a major service. No152 Posted 10, April 2016 Report Share Posted 10, April 2016 Welcome Asterix. Wasn't you in Central ave st lucia the other day by chance? I have also heard that Midas at Indooroopilly Central are euro specialists too. Have done some RenaultSport apparently but I don't have first hand experience. Worth chatting to them perhaps. Plus 1 revolution at Gold Coast. They have been doing euro cars for ever. Mostly alfas I think
asterix Posted 10, April 2016 Author Report Share Posted 10, April 2016 Yeah, that almost certainly would have been me. I'll definitely check out Midas Indooroopilly as well. Thanks

Quadrastu Posted 10, April 2016 Report Share Posted 10, April 2016 (edited) Great colour the BO, hope you enjoy it. Regarding the harmonic balancer........it's not a service schedule item but I have seen them fail on older and higher mileage vehicles. They're not cheap but is it worth doing for peace of mind????? or get the mechanic to visually check it over. I always used to see how badly cracked/perished the visible section of rubber was and how much side movement there is, but you are only looking at a small section of rubber. Regarding any mechanic you take it too make sure they have access to the engine locking tools.....if they look at you blankly or say you don't need them walk away.
