murcod Posted 4, December 2009 Report Share Posted 4, December 2009 For brake fluid (unless you're planning on going to a race track) use Castrol Response Super DOT4 - it's got a higher temp rating than normal DOT4 fluids but doesn't cost "an arm and a leg". You can get it from most BigW stores for around $8 for 500ml. Make sure you get the silver bottled version as the red bottle is the normal DOT4 stuff. http://www.autobarn.com.au/products/10/69/2833243/ http://www.tds.castrol.com.au/pdf/4861_ ... 008_03.pdf
Homerlovesbeer Posted 4, December 2009 Report Share Posted 4, December 2009 Thanks David, The coolant they quoted was the Glaceol RX Type D. I'll change it as soon as I learn how to....ditto with the Brake fliud. No way on earth I'm payed them $170 to do so. They reckon it is 0.6 hours labour for coolant and 0.6 hours for brakes. Surely it doesn't take 1:12 mins to do?
Homerlovesbeer Posted 4, December 2009 Report Share Posted 4, December 2009 Oh and it was $110 inc labour for the coolant and $90 inc labour for the Brake fluid
strife Posted 5, December 2009 Report Share Posted 5, December 2009 Question, since we're in Aus, the antifreeze isn't so much of an issue in coolants right? Since there's no way in hell the watertemp is going to hit -10 let along -21deg. I've always wondered that.
murcod Posted 5, December 2009 Report Share Posted 5, December 2009 You can get serious problems if you mix incompatible coolants (sludge blocking the radiator etc) so it pays to stick to what it was originally filled with if you want to be 100% safe. DanielAlarcon Posted 6, December 2009 Report Share Posted 6, December 2009 Hi can anyone give me some spare part help? I need to replace the ]ignition leads and coils of my 172 clio sport. I was quoted in parts alone $585 for the ignition leads and $400 for the coil pack. Is that a reasonable price? Is there anywhere else I can get it cheaper? I live on the Gold Coast and the parts will need to be freighted from Melbourne so distance doesn't bother too much, I am willing to freight them if it's cheaper. Mase Posted 6, December 2009 Report Share Posted 6, December 2009 Evilb66 should be able to get you a 2nd hand coil pack & leads easy enough for a very reasonable price. Leads can be purchased new on the net from say K-tec or many others..do a search. Better still go to the 'commercial' section on this website and e-mail wolf for a price on both new or...post in the wanted section. Those prices are a rip that is for sure. One does not have to bend over unless one wants too I'ld be having the guy who says your units are busted prove they are not functioning correctly too. FIR-26T Posted 9, December 2009 Report Share Posted 9, December 2009 If anyone has to replace their cat convertor on a 182 its about $2600! Makes the obisoud look cheap! Well I can confirm that the dealer's internal warranty price for the 182 cat convertor is $2783.10 (plus GST I'd reckon, but either way it's freaking expensive) for the part alone. Mine's getting replaced by Mentone tomorrow under warranty - with 6 days to go before it expires Now, we only have to save up for the 60K service (with cambelts and accessories belts to be done), all 4 rotors & pads and a set of 4 new tyres... when are those Lotto numbers gonna come up? I too had it replaced under warranty for 2.5K....
slick306 Posted 10, December 2009 Report Share Posted 10, December 2009 got quoted $71 for a replacement hazard light switch today - it's a pretty cheap looking piece of plastic really with a little light letting you know it's on - press it in and hazards go on and press it again and it goes off I've removed it from the dash and only looking around it looks like it's failing - not moving properly mechanically - hazzards are continuously or of you really force it after 10 attempts it goes off anyway cant believe it's $71 - it's a friggen switch

Pez Posted 4, February 2010 Report Share Posted 4, February 2010 $502 Clutch Kit $160 Clutch cable from North Shore Renault, Waitara NSW. So Strife, did the cable snap or clutch die. Surely they both don't need replacing at the same time, ala timing belt
strife Posted 4, February 2010 Report Share Posted 4, February 2010 clutch cable was stretched not snapped, and the clutch was stuffed too supposedly. Unlucky, but the clutch feels 1000x better now.

Briony Posted 24, April 2010 Report Share Posted 24, April 2010 Hi everyone I have a 2004 (late) Megane CC and the rear drivers side window regulator has died. The new part from Renault is going to cost about $1000, which brings tears to my eyes. I've tried to source a part myself on the net, but it's proving to be very tricky. Does anyone have any advice on how or where I can find a cheaper part? Thank you Briony

Tommo Posted 5, November 2014 Report Share Posted 5, November 2014 Have been quoted $700 for LH Lower Ball Joint (includes labour) for a 2008 Clio Sport 197- does this sound right? I have just bought my first renault and this is the first thing that goes wrong! $75 each for the entire control arm with ball joints. http://www.rexbo.eu/metzger/track-contr ... 1&at=15317 http://www.rexbo.eu/metzger/track-contr ... 1&at=15317 Rexbo use fed-ex. Grab a bunch of nice wiper blades and cabin filters while you're there. Any mechanic will be able to replace the control arms. Best bet is an independent Renault one as the Perfohub front suspension setup might scare your average mechanic when they see it. There's independents in Bris, Syd, Melb, Adelaide off the top of my head. Here's the genuine part, with part numbers (note the price): http://renaultpartsdirect.co.uk/product ... SF%29.html Quite a lot for the genuine part which is a stamped bit of sheet, some rubber bushes and a ball joint. But, you can understand the $700, when the genuine part is $350 + whatever it costs in Au + Labour.
Tommo Posted 5, November 2014 Report Share Posted 5, November 2014 It's even a job you could do yourself if you can turn a spanner and have some axle stands. Other alternative is to buy just the ball joints and replace the ball joints on your current control arms. Not sure what ball joints the III uses, but you can buy ball joints for the Clio II and just bolt the new ones on to the current control arms. They're not expensive either. Aib668 Posted 15, November 2019 Report Share Posted 15, November 2019 Give you some idea, I'm in the trade. Now i need a pressure sensor for my a/c. Renault part (at trade) $276.35. kedobu Posted 25, March 2021 Report Share Posted 25, March 2021 Was after a handbrake cable retaining clip for a 265 (near rear wheel). None in Aus (quoted around $16), but tried allcarpartsfast.co.uk. Was A$4.46 for the plastic clip - but they wanted A$26.93 for the postage! Bit expensive. Anyway, then got an email from Mike Aldridge from Endonservices as below: Anyway, following my reply he said that he could ship for half price once I ordered and refund half of the online quoted price. So roughly $18 landed and probably will be a darn sight quicker than what Renault could do.
