sneaky Posted 1, November 2013 Report Share Posted 1, November 2013 i'm looking to buy a clio sport in the near future, i did have one car in mind but now another has entered the picture making it hard to choose. here are the options, any advice would be good, thanks : option 1: 2003 Clio Sport, 184000k's, black, full service history through renault dealers/specialists, 1 month rego, 5 minutes from home. if i buy this i would need to do timing belt in maybe 6 months at approx $1400. no cruise control. asking price $5000 option 2: 2005 Clio Sport 182 Cup, silver, service history, 6 months rego, 2 hours from home. timing belt done at 100,000k's so not due for a while. cruise control - 40k drive to work on highway. asking price $8000 i'm thinking that if i buy option one for $5k, then pay rego in 1 month and timing belt in 6 months i'm almost at option 2's asking price, and i would be better off paying the higher price for newer model straight up.. but i prefer the look of black over silver - not the washing though. so what would you do? thanks -Tim Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

sneaky Posted 1, November 2013 Author Report Share Posted 1, November 2013 spoke to dude selling option 2. he's playing golf all weekend, will send me VIN when he get's home. his girlfriend owns the car, always serviced etc, neat car, other inspections couldn't fault it - they just didn't come up with the money he wanted, but he is negotiable. Worth checking what tyres are fitted also - just in case they are budget specials or mis-matched. Even better if the car has had the front subframe repair and engine mounts done, but whatever you buy will need some form if maintenance eventually! Good luck! sneaky Posted 2, November 2013 Author Report Share Posted 2, November 2013 just took the 2003 for a test drive. middle of the day and traffic everywhere meant no speeding/blasting through corners.. so cruising along and sitting in traffic it wasn't that impressive - air con worked so that was nice (dash showed 34/35 outside temp and my car has no air) now i'm really not sure about parting with the cash, aarrgghhh too many options. Corolla Sportivo has a nice engine. Pity it weighs what, like 1300kgs and handles like a bag of wet sago. sneaky Posted 2, November 2013 Author Report Share Posted 2, November 2013 ^^^safety is kind of important if i spend the money on a new car - i don't have the kids in the car very often but i would like to walk away from an accident. i test drove a few corolla's back in 05/06 and they went well, but under hard braking the back end was squirming alot and felt like it wanted to spin. sneaky Posted 2, November 2013 Author Report Share Posted 2, November 2013 are there certain things with the renaults that a 'normal' mechanic won't pick up? and if they need a specialist, anyone got suggestions for one near Hoxton Park in Sydney? at the moment i'll probably be looking after work so not til 6pm or later or saturday which means i can't take it to a specialist and i'd have to get the owner to run around with it. the guy selling said someone had an independant inspection and everything came up good, potential buyer just didn't offer enough cash Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have only 1 thing permanent in my boot of my 197 and that is one of my old damaged(cosmetic) rims! Better that than driving around with a tyre repair kit that doesn't bring you anyware!
