  1. Got an 2006 1050 Speed Triple in Scorched Earth Yellow (Triumph colour- worth owning just for that name). About 35000km on it. Don't ride particularly hard but hold my own in most company. Love this bike.

  2. Ebay is your friend on this one- got a complete window winder mechanism with motor for a 3 door 2006 Meg for about $90. Bugger of a job to do. Tension on raise/ lower wires is high- good luck getting tension back on them.
  3. Good to see another local 225. Well done. I would be surprised if it had cam change. First port of call for enhanced performance is usually fast chip RSTune.
  4. I have a generic Rhino rubber on mine I purchased off Doook. Required a small amount of drilling, fit then trim to length.
  5. Do all your engine mounts sooner rather than later unless 100% sure they are good. Also check steering rack ends. A common problem. If going for xr5 rims make sure to get the 60.1 mm to 64.3mm hub centric spacer rings to ensure good fit- much less likely to cause steering vibrations. You could consider the Ford rs 19’s as well. Rare but do come up from time to time.
  6. Track it! Any track. Willowbank. Lakeside. Doesn't matter which one.
  7. 2006 there was a Megan Sport (aka 225) 3 door available in black (black /gold) with cloth interior and blue highlights and came with 17" wheels (similar in appearance to the 18's). Not F1 or R26 but just a common garden variety 225 SPORT- build date November 2016, Australian Compliance December 2006 and sold new in Feb 2007. How do I know this? Because there is one parked in my garage right now. Also had Xenon's standard. Build and compliance plates can't lie.
  8. Not Clio but I did to my meg I. Cheap ebay one cost about $8 including post. It even works (quite well) including in poor light.
  9. I too, have the same colour as your car. I had never used clay bar until today. Largely on seeing it come up, time and time again on this forum, decided to give it a go. I had never been completely happy with the finish I was getting on the paintwork with a range of different products. Now- total clay bar convert. So easy to use and so fast to get a great result. One thing I have found with these cars is you really do need to want to do some of the work on them yourself. Otherwise, you will pay lots, often for, substandard work or service. Cleaning/ polishing and oil changing are inconvenient but at least you know it is done and done the way you want it to be.
  10. Love the 3dr. They are the lightest weight and carry the unique body styling so well. Welcome and enjoy.
  11. Mmmmm- black. Best colour for a stealth bomber!
  12. "Probably going to put in a double din headunit in the next day or so as well, so I'm open to recommendations there." I'll be interested to hear how you go with this and what you end up with. Also how you go with the install and what extra bits you need for it (cables, headhunt cage, trim, fascia). I'm in the process of trying to do this for an android phone and use the mirror cast operations with touch screen.
  13. No- not at all- when you collect 4 quarter horses you actually end up with one entire, complete, whole horse.
  14. Injectors are not hard to do so long as you are gentle with the plastic fuel rail. Take your time and be gentle and quite easy. Everything is right at the front of the engine. These appear to be fairly cheap- others might have a better supplier http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271785808533?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Coils out of Melbourne. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252037042406?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I have not used either of these yet. Not much good to you out on the road at night though. Best of luck with it.
  15. Really hope you can get it home. Lets hope for plugs, injectors or coils. Perhaps, but less likely, fuel filter.
  16. Fairly unlikely to do the instrument cluster as well. I have read on this forum and the UK forum the wiring harness to the cluster was changed Ph1 to Ph2 so it is not a direct swap. Pretty unlikely someone would go to that amount of trouble.
  17. Front grill- Ph1 flat top line across the intake- Ph 2 slopes down towards the middle, tail lights are different. I have heard, but do not know from personal experience, the Ph 2 had a significantly revised steering rack that improved driver feel of the car. If looking for one of these, see if you can get the front wheels off the ground with a jack- the rack ends, or steering rack its self can develop wear/ play even at fairly low km. Mine does not yet have 80,000km and it has already had both rack ends replaced.
  18. Ask for a photo of the instrument panel- Phase 2= Speedo on the right, tacho on the left. Phase 1 is the other way around. So, can someone more learned than me clarify the most significant difference between cup/ non cup is the springs? Drop cup springs into a non-cup and you have pretty much the "Cup Chassis"?- apart from drilled rotors (and red painted front callipers), 18" rims and some colour coded mirrors. Also, cam belt job in QLD- usually around the $1000 mark or there about. Once done= peace of mind.
  19. Well done. Great price. Brilliant bang for the bucks. If you are chasing tyres, consider the Bridgestone RE003's. I have them on my 3 door in 17" size and find them pretty amazing. Prices are pretty good for these too.
  20. Welcome to the Megan scene. What side of Brisbane? I have been going through Revolution Scooter who are a Euro car specialist on the Gold Coast. But this is probably a bit far away for you. 3dr or 5 dr. Km are excellent for the year. Colour? Megan will be a major performance step up from the Pug. Well done.
  21. I assume this is the one from you original post from the description you gave- http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Renault-Megane-2006/OAG-AD-12594670/?Cr=1 So does this look familiar to anyone on the forum? - previous forum member car? If someone does know this car they may be able to shed some light on the history/ previous ownership. There are a few other options out there with similar km and price, but might mean an interstate trip. These are an enthusiast car so be patient and make sure you select wisely. Also while the reputation of the steering of the Phase 1 is not as good as the Phase 2 there are a few low km examples with claimed full service history.
  22. In 1982 I had a red Lancia Beta Coupe all lined up to buy the next day- then I listened to my father, who then, sounded al lot like I do now. Didn't buy the Lancia and regretted it ever since. Yes it was Italian, rare, highly strung, unreliable and just the most exciting car I had ever given up to that point (including the thundering 5.3l V12 Jaguar E type I had the opportunity to play with for a whole day- no thank you very much you can have this back now). Regretted up until 2005- found a pretty good Lancia Beta Coupe- bought it, lived it, payed for the experience of owning an exotic rare car- loved it- got over it. Perhaps don't listen too much to grumpy old people like me.
  23. Just a little contextualisation of my above opinion. I currently have 2 P plate drives in my household. Both full time students with part time jobs. One has an Astra Sri Turbo hatch, so I am not anti-turbo cars for P plate drivers. If either one had to maintain my Megane, totally stock standard, not even with an RS tune on it, it would just cripple them financially. Search the forum posts for things like cost of brake pads or clutch replacement. Often special Renault tools needed even to replace the alternator/ air con drive belt- very difficult to do without the correct gear. But- get these cars out on a piece of great driver road and they will give so much back to you. OK around town, but much, much better in open flowing space. Also- check out insurance rates. At $12.8k if you have to take out finance, most finance contracts have a condition the car must be comprehensively insured. P-plate plus turbo, plus Euro, plus on finance, probably between $2000 to $3000 per year. And at least 95 premium unleaded with 98 being the preferred option.
  24. Hi Jason, Being a Euro hot hatch, while amazing fun to drive, and I love my 06 Ph2 3dr, as a P-plater perhaps show a little caution with ownership. These can be quite expensive to maintain when compared to anything Jap or AU domestic. There is fairly limited access under the bonnet for the 'do it your self' crew (such as myself). Often there is not a lot of options for aftermarket parts, with the most often suggested option being to order from the UK and have airfreighted to AUS as an alternative to factory genuine. I am at an age, with the resources to be able to spend the money on my car with little concern when needed. As you are on your "P's", you are probably young and have limited funds to be able to spend on the car (in other words, I think you are looking for something affordable that you can drive the wheels off, without having to spend heaps on maintenance). Sydney along with Melbourne, from what I have read on the forum, has some top notch Renault workshops that are both welcoming and highly rated with Renault expertise. I have not had the chance to work with any of these businesses being based in QLD. Their charges for service work may be far more reasonable than what I have found up here. Generally, the costs to have fairly basic stuff done are quite high. Basic timing belt, for example, around $1000 and fairly commonly agreed, beyond the scope of do it yourself.
