    Dashcams?

You could install it yourself if you only want to plug it into your 12v socket or USB port and there are plenty of videos around on our friend google to show you how to do this hiding the cables etc. or you could get an auto electrician to hardwire it in for you. We don't know what model Renault you have bought but the fuel octane rating should show near the fuel cap or somewhere else on the car.
  2. There is something amiss there in my view. These EDC trannies have their quirks but I have not heard of that one or a loss of torque in any gear actually. Sadly I think a visit to a Renault specialist is in order. 🤔 As mentioned previously the only 'normal' behaviour is for them to get confused as to which gear to select or even momentarily lose all gears when accelerating hard from slow or in the middle of a roundabout etc. which is common to all dual clutch trannies regardless of vehicle to my knowledge. You should have full gear control in Race mode but not sure about Sport manual mode though if that is what is being referred to regarding system override. I was under the impression it could be overridden if the trannie wasn't 'happy' or if you forget to change up or down in Sport manual mode.
  3. Yeah, I think it is rare as I have not heard of it happening before. I have heard of just the clutches failing but normally after stressing them in some way by allowing them to slip on inclines etc. Your dramas were obviously caused by the previous owner sadly. 😑
  4. Could you tell us the car's mileage please?
  5. Another thing to check if all else fails is a warped hub. I had a similar problem on a MR2 many years ago and tried everything, even replacing the wheels and eventually found that one front hub was warped a few degrees but that was enough to cause the issue at certain speeds. This was discovered by a tyre dealer by spinning the hub with the wheel off and lining it up with some sort of instrument to detect variation. No idea how that could happen in my case unless the previous owner hit a curb or something hard with that wheel or possibly a jack slipped and the hub hit the cement or whatever with the wheel off. I realize this is unlikely but thought I would throw it in here anyway. 🙂
  6. As Matt205 said...do not allow it to creep slowly in traffic, especially going uphill, just stop and move and stop when you need to, ignoring the beeping from behind from an impatient so and so. 😜. Also 2 other no no's. When stopped on a hill hold the car with the brake rather than the engine and when going slow especially around a roundabout initially feather the throttle rather than accelerating hard otherwise you may momentarily lose all gears. This is not a fault, just a quirk of the DCT transmission. If you treat it like a manual car with an automatic option you will be fine. 😉.

    New Clio Owner

I went up one size to 215/45/17's on mine mainly because they were much cheaper compared to the standard size. They were only Bridgestone S001's with a 4 for the price of 3 offer at the time but they handled fine for my normal road use.
  8. The larger diameter short plastic pipe that joins the throttle body tends to burst at the LH side over time. Doesn't always happen though. Probably depends on how hard you drive the car or if you use it on the track. Some here have used zip ties as a temporary repair til they replace it with the same type or the stronger one mentioned here. You can buy it seperately to the other piping in the link if you wish. Mine never burst in 4 years of ownership but I did not drive the car hard..😊

    Bence

Yeah...I am assuming the OP is a younger person considering the thread is about a first car purchase and I tend to agree. Get something with less power first up and if it must be a similar Renault buy one of the late model non turbo Clios and learn to drive the thing before graduating to an RS model.
  10. Yeah...it would be handy to know whether the cars pictured are the basic models and the prices being asked so we can give a better opinion.
  11. The red Sport model pictured here has the Cup 18" wheels which are better anyway than the factory silver 17" wheels anyway in my view. Main difference is that the basic Cup is a bit lower, different wheels, stiffer suspension and a more technical media R link system that can give you performance information. No difference in engine or transmission. If you want a ride that is a little softer then opt for the Sport. If you prefer a slightly better handling car then go for the Cup model. There are different luxury versions of Sport and Cup models also and we would need to know that to offer comparisons. I am assuming these are just the entry models. Also, price could be a decider as they both should be a similar price based on different years and mileage of course. Are you able to give us approx. prices?
  12. Do you have the owner's manual and /or service book? If so just follow the service requirements for the mileage/age etc. Mine was the same model as yours but I just got it serviced at the dealership with no dramas. No different to any other vehicle re regular oil changes, filters etc. if you are confident enough to do it yourself. One piece of driving advice....try and avoid 'creeping' in traffic as that tends to stress the dual clutch trannie. Better to stop and go in spurts and ignore the impatient idiots beeping behind you😉. Also when slowing down for roundabouts etc. avoid tramping on the accelerator upon exit as that will often confuse the trannie re which gear to select....gentle acceleration is the go. The EDC transmission is great especially at speed but like all dual clutch types they have their quirks at slow speed and this is normal.
  13. Exactly right, doubt there is any difference in performance unless tuned or modded as mentioned. Just saves on the cost of paper filters but only if you do a lot of kilometres. I had one in an MR2 which was modded but could not tell if it made any difference to performance coz it went like stink anyway. Only cleaned it and re-oiled it every 40,000km or so and it was a time consuming job but probably needed doing only once every 2 or 3 years...😊
  14. +1...came out mid 2014 on. Later models are better but they are all good. They ride a little softer than the Cup model but are fine for both track and road use. Whatever your budget allows...you won't regret it. 😁 Just check the normal things when buying used and definately test drive.
  15. From mid 2014 on through 2015 plus these had a 5 year warranty so you may be able to get one with some factory warranty left. As others have said they are a great little reliable car. I bought mine new in 2014 and the only reason I traded it last year was to buy a vehicle more suitable to my 'maturing' years and the wife wanted an SUV. Don't be too concerned with rumours about the EDC trannie as problems are rare if you service the car regularly. I never had any problems with mine in 4 years and the only complaint I can think of is they tend to spray the front wheels with a lot of brake dust and I ended up buying a can of brake dust repellent spray which virtually eliminated this problem.
  16. Yep....interested to know which Elan it was. I was interested in the 1990 to 1995 model at one stage but could never find one in reasonable nick. They were a little road rocket with an Isuzu turbo.
  17. You need to take one for a test drive to fully understand the DCT gearbox. All dual clutch gear boxes, DCT, DSG whatever in any car, not only Clios operate the same and can be annoying at roundabouts, slow traffic etc. however on the open road they can be lot of fun due to fast gear changes etc. I eventually traded mine for a 'normal' torque converter auto as I found myself doing a lot of short drives involving many roundabouts and stop/starts etc. and it wasn't really suited for that so I suggest you be aware of that. Also I had visions of the DCT giving up just after the 5 year warranty ended costing me around $8,000 to replace....the eternal pessimist. 😴 In saying that they can be a lot of fun and I still miss mine for the power and handling and the DCT 'box seems to withstand track work ok. so possibly the concern is exaggerated 😖

    Oil change

http://www.reset-service.com/oil-reset-light/reset-service-light-indicator-renault-megane-2 This is how you do it.
  19. Seems to only be available to European Reno owners. Can't find Aussie version.
  20. I did it at pace a few years ago in a SW20 MR2 chasing other like cars on a CAMS sanctioned rally. Oversteer on most corners going up, most fun I have had since my honeymoon.
  21. Good price...don't worry about negative comments. Any car new or old can have issues and you still have a couple of years warranty left. I have never had any real dramas with mine...
  22. Just in case you are unaware where the missing door seals should be, the missing front door ones are at the bottom of the doors and you will probably see the holes in the metal where they should have been clipped in. The missing back door ones run right around the door from where the top seals finish at the rear base of the window to the end of the door base or leading edge at the bottom of the door. Don't let them give you their normal bulldust about some cars being assembled without them etc. etc. The back door ones in particular prevent dust and water entering the cabin. If they argue the point quote Stromlo's case where he had his missing ones supplied There is an extensive thread on this here somewhere as you probably know...
  23. Yep Dan...go direct to Renault, Australia re door seals and once you receive them if you are confident enough fit them yourself or get your friendly panel beater to do it professionally.
