  2. Upgrading a Scenic with RS-Components

Isn't there an issue where you can't rev it to 7k? Power aside I'm sure the torque would be much better? Did you have it dyno'd prior? Also there's easily power loss through the trans..how much who knows.

That's great to hear! Still on stock tuning yeah? And stock exhaust manifold? Just imagine how it will be when you sort those out too!
  4. Upgrading a Scenic with RS-Components

I'd day your scenic will dyno 95kw or thereabouts with the rs engine through the auto.

Good on this bloke. R.S. scenic: for when your Mrs tells you to buy a family car

If I had a timing related engine failure 4 weeks after a timing belt service (and I had paid a mechanic for the job ) I'd be doing all kinds of jumping up and down..

Defensive driving courses are anything but car control centric. Major misconception. The practical tests they do show participants that even with practice and preparedness, your vehicle has limits and statistically, if you find yourself in an emergency situation, you're stuffed anyway. Everything I was taught was about avoidence and alertness, etc. As well as correct driving position so that you have the right control on the car. This might seem ad odds with what some of you guys think, but I think this is the perfect approach. Car control is absolutely important but this stuff comes first, and imbueing them with the idea that they drive an RS or *insert capable car here* is probably gonna make them think they're bulletproof and untouchable. Fwiw I did my course with Murcotts. And even my father (I was on my learners at the time so he came), who has driven 50,000km a year most of his working life learned a lot from it. I don't discount the value of car control, not one bit, but give them the tools to avoid these situations as much as humanly possible well before you give them the idea that they can handle or brake their way out of anything.

I think learning in a manual taught me mechanical sympathy-you learn to carry out every action smoothly.

Yep! Struggling to navigate and having glitches with private messaging also.
  10. Just test drove a Clio 172...

It had dents in the roof. Is it worth looking for a 2003? Or is 2002 the exact same without ESP? Is ESP necessary? RE: ESC. I strongly agree with the above comment from Tommo. All cars you intend on owning should have ESC! Things such as ABS, airbags, ESC are potential life savers. The thing with RS cars is that they sucker you in to driving them that little bit harder and on public roads that is a potentially dangerous thing to do. My ESC kicked on a drive day we did a month back. Innocent looking gravel mid corner kicked the tail out. Watch it here: http://www.ozrenaultsport.com/bb/viewto ... 10&t=28245 It was pretty hairy in my non ESC 2002 172 also. Apparently the ESC boxes are also more securely attached to the engine as well, where as pre ESC is circliped.

  12. New Clio 172 owner!

G'Day all! My name is Braden, I'm a short term lurker brought to these forums by my friend "My Name is Earl". My previous ride history had been pretty varied; I started out with a 1997 Subaru Impreza sportswagon, which I loved to pieces and eventually traded in when I found out the big end bearing was on its way out. I traded that in for a 2003 Mazda 6 Luxury Hatch, which was definitely quite an upgrade in most respects but I probably listened to others a little too much and after 50,000km/1.5 years decided to move it on. A family sized front wheel drive sedan with an auto gearbox just wasn't cutting it for me (though they really come alive with a manual trans). I needed something relatively practical, it only had to carry 2 people in comfort max, and most of all I wanted something quick through corners and general speed. And manual! And that's about the time that "My Name is Earl" started telling me about the Renaultsport Clio's, and the more he told me the greater my interest. A couple of weeks went by, and I found one I wanted to check out-"Earl" organised forum mod Dish to come with me for an inspection and test drive-what a great pair of blokes As it transpires, Dish knew the owner and the car as they were also on the forum. By the end of the next week, following much drama for me disposing of the Mazda and Iluszn obtaining RWC for the Clio. The drama didn't end there though, as on the day of pickup I made a bank transfer to Iluszn albeit I stuffed up and left two digits off the end..not to worry, he allowed me to pay him a cash deposit, he retained all the rwc/transfer forms and I dropped by early the next week with the balance. I may have only had experience with 3 members of the forum here, but it all points toward this being an awesome community of people and I'm looking forward to being a part of it and It goes without saying I'm extremely grateful and thankful for the generosity and support I've received from relative strangers! Like nothing I've experienced before My intentions with the car is to do justice to the mods and maintenance Iluszn has painstakingly carried out with the car, and with a couple of peace of mind parts replacements or upgrades, a couple of track days here and there. I'm absolutely loving the car!
