  1. or stretch a bit for this.... https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2015-renault-megane-r-s-275-trophy-r-manual/SSE-AD-13681134/?Cr=1
  2. I've owned a Meg, a Roc and Clio 3 x2. Went back to a Clio 3 for what it's worth. Roc is great, refined, fast, well put together but a little meh, needed a DSG remap to get over the appalling mapping and didn't handle as well as a Meg or Clio but not a lot really does. Long doors were a pain at times too Meg is relatively refined, suspension was ok for me (inner Melb so tram tracks, shit surfaces etc.), nice engine, not much go wrong with them, poor 3/4 visibility and immensely capable but need a lot of speed to really come alive Clio 3 is more fun, more of the time and still quick enough. Stock suspension is too firm for inner city - mine has AST5100 on their softer springs and it rides very decently and handles brilliantly. Synchros can be a problem, have rebuilt my box and added a Quaife so it's good for a long time now. As Speedfiend said, the interiors are bit low rent, i have soundproofed mine and it's a different place to be, definitely worth a little time to do it. RB8 and 8:08 are great specs in the older Meg, newer a 275 cup premium is the pick but might be above your budget You probably need to drive a clio to see if it floats your boat, if it does, it will be clear pretty quickly. good luck!
  3. Agreed - not sure if it is something that has been misinterpreted over time. Below is an extract from the Vic Roads standards - seems to me a small tear does not impact unless "defect" can be taken as any kind of tear. bit of a stretch
  4. the seat cover is just to get the car through the Vic roadworthy process, any tears in the seat can be a failure
  5. cheapest seat cover you can throw over it should stop any issues
  6. Welcome to the 20th club! Look forward to seeing it around
  7. I had my steering rack refurbed - not a common thing to get done but was definitely worth it and made the steering feel just right. I had a pure gearshift but didn't like it - i am in the minority though- the Yanoo bushing/refresh kit was the perfect answer as it replaces the worn factory items and just makes it feel new. As above for suspension, OEM is very well judged, Koni yellow/Eibach is very good too, many like Bilstein B14 as well. Yanoo info here http://www.dp-automotive.hu/dpa_developments.html#q6
  8. I had the CGR decat on my 250, was good with centre res removed and stock rear muffler. Could be worth checking the RSTuning group tuning when Paul is out later this year.

    Hello guys

    That escort. Oh my...
  10. That is a bargain! Sent from my CPH1607 using Tapatalk
  11. As pointed out above, belts are important. Other than that they are pretty cheap to maintain, there are a few specialists (can't recall where you are...) and don't have any real vices. Sent from my CPH1607 using Tapatalk
  12. It really depends on what you are going to do with the car, if you are going to use it on the track a Lot, then ITBs may make sense, otherwise they are a lot of expense for not a massive gain. Most 1x2s are getting a little tired but there are some great 200s around. Having had both, they are great cars but quote different - the 1x2 is more raw and fun but the 200 is maybe even better in the chassis dept though the extra weight does hurt it and they are pretty stiff for daily use. For a bit of noise, an intake makes more sense than exhaust and is a lot cheaper. Sent from my CPH1607 using Tapatalk
  13. Welcome and there is plenty to do - looks like you will be based in Melbourne so Philip Island would be #1 but track days there are often quite expensive and you would want to do one earlier as the weather there can be challenging, There are a few other tracks in Victoria (Winton, Sandown, Haunted Hills) and only a few hours from Melbourne, anything else (SMSP, Wakefield etc.) will be a decent drive. If you pick up a Renault, you may find the prices of some cars here higher than you might expect and moving one on when you leave isn't always a fast process unless it is priced very well. Any idea what sort of car you will be looking for?
  14. How/where does it attach ? In the Clio iii I added some eye bolts but can't see where to do something similar in the meg.
  15. Cool. As boring as it may be I would be taking a golf gti for a good long test drive. Definitely in your price range and a few manuals around as well. Easy to get a little more go if you fancy it too.
