  1. Hi folks, newbie here with what is my first French car, the 182 Cup, in Melbourne. My background is in Japanese stuff - Datsuns and Mazdas. My brother had a 504 which had a driving position that immediately triggered a memory when sitting in the Clio! However, I'm more of a fan of value-for-money, and Euro stuff simply offers a better proposition these days. I am late 30s M with no kids, work in Automotive and just wanted something to offer cheap thrills without having to worry too much. As per my WTB ad, I recently flew up to Sydney and drove this car home. It performed perfectly, and was a joy to drive. In fact, nearing Melbourne I took a detour to take the long way home so I could drive it some more!! If that doesn't say I bought the right car I dont know what does. This thing is therapy!!! Yes I bought quite a nice example with low kms, for me, I just want something I can jump into and enjoy without headaches. Gradually I hope to improve and amplify its character. For now, I've got a lot of cleaning up and inspecting to do. It's had the belts done recently so thats good, but keen to hear from the brains trust here on best first fixes/modifications. My thoughts: 1. Steering - seems a bit tired, need to check CV joints etc. 2. Suspension - it's fantastic out of the box and I'm keen to get to know the car more first, but down the track, is there any consensus for options in AU? 3. Wheels - From what I read it seems 15x7 +35 is the go for the road, is that right? I see Turinis and 2118s are the standard, but will RPF1 fit? I saw something saying they dont clear front brakes? 4. Gearbox - again just seems like its a bit loose after 18 years. Has anyone got experience with https://www.pure-motorsport.co.uk/racing-precision-gear-linkage-kit-clio-2-rs.html ? 5. Rear hatch struts - mine are on the way out, is there a common aftermarket option to replace these? 7700842256 Some piccies from the drive home (6.8l/100km WOW):

  2. Hi all, First time frenchie owner here after a long line of pretty varied JDM cars and currently an I30N (which I still have). Managed to pick up a pretty clean Clio 172 after years of wanting one and it doesn't disappoint. That lightweight feel and N/A induction roar/response is so addictive! 2002, 119kms with a well documented service history and well kept paintwork/interior - I was hard pressed to find something in this condition in Melbourne! It drives and feels pretty tight but does have the following niggles: - Slightly loose (rocking) drivers seat - is the fix as simple as tightening up the mounting bolts or do the seat mounts end up with excessive play after 20+ years? - The previous owner changed the top mounts, but there are some clunking noises at low speed when turning the steering wheel. I was advised the new mounts need bedding in. Is this a thing or has the install gone wrong? My plan is to keep it fairly OEM+ and enjoy it for what it is, hoping to use it as a weekender and blast it through the hills. I've done the whole track car thing and hate the compromises that come with building a car that is too focused! An aftermarket intake, some wheels and swapping out the steering wheel are probably the first things on the list, but at the moment just loving it bone stock! Looking forward to hopefully meeting some fellow owners along the way. JC

  4. Finally picked pulled the trigger and bought myself a clio 200. Will be driving it all the way from the Gold Coast down to Melbourne in a couple weeks time. This one is number 5 of 30. Recaros, Akrapovic and the speedline wheels. Pretty happy.

  5. Hi everyone. I'm Michael and wanted to introduce myself. I just took delivery of a pearl white manual Megane Ultime yesterday morning. Totally won over by its handling and looks. Previously owned a Focus XR5 for just over nine years. I have now put my personalised number plates on the car FYI. I look forward to finding more about this awesome car and hearing about other people's experiences with the Megane RS280/300!

  7. Just back from a week in Tassie. 4th time in as many years as it's truly the most epic roads in the world, but first time in the Clio. About 2000kms over 6 days, performed like a champion. Very happy with all the work I've put into it over the last 6 months.

  8. Might also make it easier for noobs who perhaps don't know the difference between generations. Also, maybe we drop the 1,2,3,4 Maybe we could have for Megane. "That one with the big but" "The popular one" "The one your wife lets you drive on weekends" Or for Clio "The popular one" "The popular ones heavyset younger sister" "The one your wife said she would actually drive" In an effort to be PC, replace wife with Partner or whatever..

  9. ***UPDATE*** So after going to Renotech, they diagnosed the fault within one hour, and said that the rear steering rack was faulty and needed to be replaced. That the rear wheels had too much "give" and must've been setting the power steering sensor off. I took their written diagnostic report to Renault Chatswood- who told me they were refusing to do anything suggested by an external company and were "disappointed" that I hadn't listened to them and changed all 4 tyres as they instructed. So they cornered me. I changed tyres reluctantly. Money in the bin. Error message still there. I took it back to Chatswood for the 5th time. They had no choice but to change my steering rack. And VOILA! FUCKING FIXED. So guys... to save you from 834 visits to Renault in the future- if it says "check power steering" it could be the steering rack! Not the tyres! Save your $. Thank you for suggesting Renotech. This forum put me in the right direction.

  10. don't listen to Speedy ! 😇 the ride in Clio and Megane are both fine and much better than an Abarth or a Ute based 4WD. Trust me on that. VRX IS a Holden and that has huge cachet around here, the Fiesta is a Ford so zero cachet at all anywhere. the GT86 is a Toy+ta, so that totally rules it out - what will the neighbours think ? This is an RS forum so the only choice is what colour is your Clio3 or Meg3 going to be ? they are both fabulous and I have one of each, they are that good

  11. Now with ARB! I think this should let me set the rear shocks softer for better ride whilst keeping it neutral in the bends… in theory? I’m no expert got to get tyres and an alignment for sure.

  13. Haha, I find the black looks more aggressive than happy colours like orange or yellow. (Can hear feathers being ruffled)😂 When you look at the black at night with the lights on it looks like something out of the future, I think it adds a touch of class to the car, it doesn’t shout from the rooftops I’m fast, it just is. Beauty is subjective and is always in the eye of the beholder. Colour wasn’t a concern for me, they all look good IMO. 😝 Besides it harks back to my one true love, those rims where so perfect imo.

  15. Absolute blast. Very happy with the balance of mods I've done (thanks not least to the advice from members on this forum!!) and its plenty quick enough. I was mostly just glad to be able to spend some quality time getting more familiar with it. But the best part is the involvement. The ultimate speeds are not really that high so there's a lot less to worry about yet it's just so engaging at any speed. Bloody good fun and definitely holds its own on the tighter stuff - the wheel/tyre combo are transformative.

  16. Got a magnaflow 200c cat and the Scorpion RS192 system fitted. Really nice sound, very happy with this. Butt dyno says more peppy but I guess I need a tune to actually see any real gains. Recommend Stuart at Burwood Auto After

  20. No. I had it up for sale in June. Error came up September and all interested buyers have been told about the error message. So I'm trying to do the right thing and get it fixed before I hand it over.

  21. Just an update. RSMelbTom's RS265 above got sold before I had a chance to contact him. As my budget is strictly under 15k, I have chosen the Capsicum Red RS 250 Cup listed on Carsales. The odometer is around 107K and car has the leather seats and bi-xenons. The car has been serviced through Virage Motors and Alpine Affaire, which got me really interested. The seller is currently arranging the RWC and I'll update the thread once I have the car in my possession.

  24. The K-tec catalogue is excellent but the shipping costs are exorbitant. If that is genuinely what it costs to ship with TNT and k-tec are just passing it in, fine I suppose but if there’s an extra cut or just a generic calculator which way overestimates, some consideration here might get a lot more business from Australia.

  25. LMAO This is hilarious. You remind me of my 18 year old self and the posts I used to make. What about dyno'ing the car and then using the wheel horsepower number and submitting the dyno sheet as proof? 😎 You might get lucky and deal with a bureaucrat who isn't into cars. I suspect you will find many other people here who will remind you that you might be sacrificing your insurance though. Of course, the dyno sheet might show that the car has lost a pony or two so you legitimately have a car with a lower power to weight ratio. Or you could buy a clio. Just saying. Anyway, good luck with this. Excellent shithousery I approve. Far out I hope people have a sense of humour. Brace yourself champ. 🤣
